Classic Rock Bottom

Before Spinal Tap, there was Bad News.

Well, technically they first appeared in the British series "The Comic Strip Presents..." back in 1983, which followed the "band" around in a rockumentary filmed the same year as This Is Spinal Tap, but it was released prior to the adventures of the more famous trio.

Some say they have no talent. I beg to differ. And to back up my dictum, I folded out the CD booklet to show you the contrary. Yes of course, they are packing, but that is not the main focus of my presentation. Go to the small print and you'll see Brian May (yeah, that guy from the band QUEEN) produced the album (hence the Bohemian Rhapsody cover). So I'm asking you: Would he be involved in this project if these guys didn't show huge potential? I think not! There you have it.

If you done ogling the members, click on the part of the picture you found most attractive and voilà. Be prepared to be blown away, with some incredible badstage news. Fair Warning though: Your boss might not appreciate you listening to this at work. So don't!

I vaguely remember this from the tie-in with "The Young Ones" since a few of them were in this "band". It's very funny, but Spinal Tap did come before this, they appeared in the late 70's on a TV show. I just can't remember if I saw Bad News on tv while in England since it was so long ago. Damn, now I want to watch "The Young Ones". And the original Max Headroom show (not the US tv series). And billiard tournaments. And darts.

Sorry, I went by my memory.

I saw Bad News when they came out, but only got aware of Spinal Tap much later. A quick search told me the two "projects" were done at the same time. However since TV productions are faster than the ones aimed at the big screens, Bad News was available before This Is Spinal Tap.

As far as the "bands" origin go, I'll take your word that it was the other way around. Not that I want to investigate or analyze the facts. After all, it's only fun if you can take them both at face value.

The song wasn't very funny (Drink Til I Die), maybe a little funny, but the dialogue was hilarious.

Don't overdub my bass...
