Classic Rock Bottom

Not very often, but occasionally I do buy CD's blindly. Some of the reasons might be because the artist(s) never let me down, the release has a limited print and if I don't act now, I might miss the opportunity or perhaps the deal is so good I got nothing to loose.

Regardless of the reason I go for it, I still have certain expectations thou. When I saw Chris Amott releasing a solo CD, I was thinking: It's about time. I like his guitar playing in both bands, Arch Enemy and Armageddon, however neither of those bands music is much to my liking, so naturally I expected from this album to be a Heavy Metal shredfest. There was no samples available prior the release, but I thought, why not?

When I received the CD, my first disappointment was the cover. That doesn't look like shred. Opened the booklet and there were lyrics inside to ALL the songs. So it's not an Instrumental album, either. Bummer. But what hurt me the most was the music. No Metal. WTF? Sampled the songs for few seconds and tossed the CD aside until now, when I decided to give it another round and this time on the merit of it's own.

With Follow Your Heart Chris does exactly what the title suggests. Perhaps he needed a break from Heavy Metal music. There is little bit of space Rock, psychedelia and a brush with prog rock elements, but basically it's 70's inspired Classic Rock. As for the quality, I let you be the judge.

CHRISTOPHER AMOTT - Follow Your Heart

Digipak ℗ 2010

ROCK

1. Tibet
2. Holy Mountain
3. Kilimanjaro
4. In The Pale Moonlight
5. Track #5
6. Space Song
7. From Here To There
8. Lifeline

Finally getting around to listen to, (for the first time) some music I've been putting aside (for years). Including, things from the past I recently discovered, projects I previously had, but replaced with a newly remastered version, or those simple cases, were my last years order didn't arrive on time.

I'm not at all familiar with Christopher Amott or Arch Enemy or Armageddon.

First, I'll say I like the music on all tracks. Yep, all of 'em.  Very creative and full.

The first track posted was good, but the second not so much.  Track three tried really hard to be interesting but just couldn't do it.

Tibet, however, was a fantastic song.  Really liked that one.

Track #5 was fair.

Not a bad taste of his music.  He's not a great singer, but is passable.

I have a couple Armageddon album, Embrace The Mystery and Three. Both are pretty good with Three being the best of 'em. Don't have any Arch Enemy albums but might have them on a comp or two.

Anyway, this is pretty good. Mellow compared to the bands mentioned above, but not MELLOW mellow. Kinda reminds me of Jerry Cantrell's Boggy Creek for some reason.
