Classic Rock Bottom

It's been a while since we had a Canadian AOR/ Melodic Hard Rock band here at LTTP. It's time to present another one.

More precisely, it's a union of two well known and respected musician collaborating on a project similar to their pedigree. We are talking about the band 24K consisting of Phil Naro, filling in the vocal duties and Mladen providing guitars that reminded me quite a bit of their previous outfits: Talas, Von Groove and the last Triumph album.

The songs are catchy and diverse, ranging from Rockers to Ballads. The production is pristine and there are couple of note worthy guests present as well. I think it would have been a shame not to have Billy Sheehan play bass on at least one track and the other notable guest is Slav Simanic, a guitar virtuoso with couple of solo records under his belt. The credits are vague in revealing which song(s) he was involved with, but my money says Stone Heart was one of them.

Finally getting around to listen to, (for the first time) some music I've been putting aside (for years). Including, things from the past I recently discovered, projects I previously had, but replaced with a newly remastered version, or those simple cases, were my last years order didn't arrive on time.

I am assuming that Phil Naro is the same person as Phil X based on your Triumph reference...  Correct me if I'm wrong.

Not a fan of the vocals right off the bat.  I am sure I will have no issue with the guitar work.  But the first track is not real solid tone setter...  And it kinda continues this way for all 5 tracks, nothing really catches my ear.  The musicianship is there, the songwriting and vocals need a bit of a kick.  As a Canadian Classic Rock fan this one is new to me, so my CCR fandom clearly has some holes, and why wouldn't it, I dont live there and not everything filtered down this way.  But I paid attention to what did at least from 77 to 89ish...

Phil X is a guitarist who was credited on the last Triumph album as a full member. (He also played on Alice Cooper Brutal Planet and is the new guitarist of Bon Jovi)

The Triumph reference was aid at Mladen who was credited as "additional guitars" on the Triumph album, but based on the typical Phil X sound I get from everywhere else he was involved with, to me it almost seems like Mladen was much more involved than one is to believed. Don't quote me on that, just a feeling I get, but regardless Mladen was also credited there.
