Classic Rock Bottom

Day 10
Dear Diary,

Honestly, I thought this round of clues were so easy, we are going to see them answered correctly, for sure. Boy, was I wrong. Give me that bell! And the silencer, too! DING DI... There! Jon was fast to give us a half correct answer (as usual), but he left the door open for Scott to steal the points for accurately naming the Iron Maiden CD. How did Scott came up with: Piece Of Mind, is beyond me? OK, so Jon gets half the points and half the floggings. Scott gets no points and half the floggings... As promised. (In the event of not solving this simple clue.) More precisely 333 floggings for each of you, which brings us to a nice round number of 666. On the other hand, I can understand the Stevie Nicks mishap. That's one witch you don't want to cross, but... You missed the "ex" part of the clue, which clearly implied to Doro's previous involvement in Warlock. Ritchie Blackmore for guitarist gone solo? Sure, plausible, but no dice. At least it's not some ridiculously outrageous guess, so I feel like we are getting somewhere... If nothing else, then down to the chamber for some good ol' fashion floggings, while we all celebrate the current standing:
Scott is on the top, So Alone Together, with his 1400 pts, while
Jon has his Eye On You Scott, with 1050 pts, and
Everyone Else is on the receiving Endica, with 0 pts.

Global News... Another food related one. Can you blame me? So, here is the deal; Priya Iyengar from Mumbai, India was hungry for some cake. It wasn't a special occasion, just a simple case of sweet tooth. She got on the phone and called the good bakers of Zomato, to make her one. After giving them some basic instructions in regards to her preferences, all she got to do was, to wait for the cake to arrive. Since there wasn't any occasion to celebrate, she didn't want any writings on the cake, either. Right? Wrong. She got one, nonetheless. You see, the bakers wouldn't have such nonsense, so they took the matters in their hands, carefully followed her instructions and gave her one. When Priya received the cake, it came with a writing on the top: "No Garlic". No, it wasn't Happy Birthday... Nor was it, Happy Anniversary... But, NO GARLIC. And you know how it is these days. The first thing she did was to share her experience on social media outlets, but then... In the spirit of professionalism, she received a replacement cake from Zomato's. Yes, the good folks from Zomato sent her another one. This time, with a message on the top saying: SORRY FROM ZOMATO, THE CAKE IS NOT SPICY. Next time you order a torte, have some respect for the craftsmanship it goes into making one of those cholesterol elevators and put a damn message on it, will ya? You already paid for it, so make it a challenge for the bakers. Pick something long, that way you'll get more bang for your buck. Believe me, if you're ordering a cake for no apparent reason, you need a good bang. Otherwise, use a random idiom, like: TAKE CARE OF THE PENNIES AND THE POUNDS WILL PILE THEMSELVES. Simple, yeah?

Island News... To my surprise, the trees continue to wane, which wouldn't really bother me much, except now the noise from all the birds is unbearable. There aren't leaf's left to muzzle their singings. As soon as I open my eyes, there they are. Just Cheep Chereep, Cheep Chereep, all day long. It's annoying... And on top of that, I'm hungry. So, I came up with a solution. Now that all the trees are hollow, they do give up a nice loud sound when I bang the trunks. It took me a while, but I did manage to tie a stick on the rope to every single tree and left the rest to be taken care of, by the wind. You see, the wind was flip-flopping these sticks left and right thus creating a tremendous, never ending ruckus. The loud noise disturbed the birds so much, they were afraid to land. For hours they were circling the Island, in the air, but then they got tired and start dropping dead. I thought, with one stone I can kill two birds in getting rid of the noise and feed myself, but... I killed them all. Oops!

Well, on the upside, nothing beats a full belly (these birds taste like chicken. Well OK, they look like chicken too) and my music has no competition now, so let's hear it:

1. IRON MAIDER - Hallowed Be Thy Name
from "Number Of The Beast" CD ℗ 1982/1998

I remember one of the biggest concert in Yugoslavia, Hipodrom 1981. The 2 days, 36 hours long event was the equivalent of the Woodstock Festival. Bijelo Dugme (remember them?) were the headliners, but a whole bunch of other Yu-Rock bands were performing, as well. However, a single (and the only) international act, stole the show. If your guess was Iron Maiden, you were correct. At this point, Iron Maiden was a myth in Yugoslavia. They were the young band we all heard about, who brought England to their knees. Not surprisingly, they were paid £7000, while Bijelo Dugme got around 20.000 dinars (Yu currency). Don't let the sheer numbers fool you. I'm not sure of the exact exchange rate, but the payout was many-folds larger in Iron Maiden's favor. I wasn't at the concert, but articles were written about it and the word of mouth spread fast. All of the above made it possible for Iron Maiden to become an overnight sensation. Like many other hopefuls, I promptly visited the record store, just to be disappointed, because there wasn't any Iron Maiden album available... yet. The only thing, I could find was the "Metalmania" compilation LP, hosting two Iron Maiden tracks, from their first album. I bought it and next time we were on vacation, I picked up the "Killers" on vinyl. By the time "Number Of The Beast" came to be, Iron Maiden couldn't be bigger in Yugoslavia. The frenzy reached its highest point. Di'Anno was great in Maiden. However, Dickinson did raise the bar a notch.

2. DORO - Eye On You
3. DORO - So Alone Together
4. DORO - Bad Blood
5. DORO - Last Day Of My Life
from "Angels Never Die" CD ℗ 1993

Doro's fourth solo CD was done in collaboration, with Jack Ponti and Vic Pepe. Two producers who formulated her album in the same style they got to be known for, Melodic Metal and Power Ballads. I don't think any other Doro album has such a clear path to the goal. The album was never released in the States. However, it had a comfortable stay on the German charts for 13 weeks, reaching as high as position No. 21.

6. JOHN NORUM - Face The Truth
7. JOHN NORUM - We Will Be Strong
8. JOHN NORUM - Time Will Find The Answer
9. JOHN NORUM - Endica
from "Face The Truth" CD ℗ 1992

After John Norum's exit from Europe, his second CD reunited him shortly with his ex bandmate and singer, Joey Tempest in a song titled "We Will Be Strong", while Glenn Hughes filled in the duty for the rest of the album. I find this project to be a huge improvement over his first effort, which despite John's intentions to have a voice of his own, very much sounded like a lost Europe release, with slightly more guitars. Face The Truth was a step in the right direction for Norum, sporting some of the retro vibes and sentiments toward Hard Rock, Europe employs nowadays.

Wait....Scott guesses POM but the IM album is NOTB.

Doro Pesch has a fine voice, but the songs are just generic. Had a Warlock album and that didn't impress me much either.

John Norum is a great geetarist, but this doesn't do him any justice. Like Doro, it's quite generic. At least you didn't pick THAT  Europe album.

Iron Maiden? Never heard of them, but they sound too dark for my taste. Plus the album cover is too evil.
