Classic Rock Bottom

Day 11
Dear Diary,

DING DING DING is the sound, a single correct answer makes. No need for suspense. Jon was the only one to take a stab at the clues. His Hungarian is sketchy and so is his answer for the first clue, but he was right on the money for the Leprechaun's fortune. And I refuse to entertain his silly answer. So, there has been a sliding on the stage of great accomplishments:
Jon is now the new Spotlight Kid, with his 1550 pts, while
ScOtt Fogsz Majd Sírni, Ahol Senki Se Lát, with his 1400 pts, and
Everyone Else is a Száműzött Lovag at the foundation, with 0 pts.

Global News... Yevgenya S. from Troitsk, Russia, a collage student studying to become a teacher, found herself in an extremely lucky situation to win an iPhone (the latest model). All she had to do, was to strip down naked in a nightclub. As someone who does everything they tell her to do, she got right down to it. Before you can say Vodka, she was buck naked and smiling. However, her prize wasn't an iPhone, but rather a cheap knockoff that was promptly stolen from her bag, the very same night. Yevgenya would wish that was the worst thing that happened to her, because as soon as the board got a wind of her extracurricular activities, she was expelled. Since, we are a society that likes to dig deep in order to find out whose fault this whole ordeal was, I'm happy to report; it's her Mother's fault. You see, Elena was working several jobs to put her daughter through collage. Well... Perhaps she should have found another job, just so she can afford to buy her an iPhone too. The poor girl shouldn't have to strip naked, to keep up with the Yonsiches. Of course, the only person to come out on top was, Elena. Now, she doesn't have to work... so hard. Shame on YOU!

Island News... This is going to be a short one. It's a locust invasion, here on the Island. I wonder if the death of all the birds has something to do with it? Without its natural predators, the locusts swarmed the Island. I think, I'm going to stay inside my hut. At least, until the situation blows over.

And listen to the music... Of course. You're invited.

Hunting was Hobo Blues Band's fourth album and at the time of its release, it was one of the very few concept projects coming from Hungary. However, due to the fact that the album is not telling a singular story, but sets the material, which was built around a carefully planned, musically and textually uniform and detailed theme of hunting, I'm not sure the description is that accurate. Nevertheless, the album is something else. Beside the original tunes, the band covered an opera, wrote music to the words of Shakespeare and Kerouac, as well as some well known Hungarian poets, such as: Arany János, Erkel Ferenc and Pilinszky János. And let's not forget the lyrics written by Földes László (Hobo), who is considered one of the greatest contemporary poets and writers in Hungary. The hunting customs and associative tropes portraits historical and social events, flashing fragments of fate, tableau-like expressions in messages that were daring the political views of the soon to be toppled Communist regime, with innuendos and ambiguous phrases. While the band played Blues on their previous albums, Hunting is much more diverse than that, and it put the guitarist Tatrai Tibor on my map. It might sound like there are several guitarists on few tracks here, but all the guitars were done by him. Since the beginning, the band was unique for having two singers: Hobo (the founder and the leader) and an amputee, Deák Bill Gyula, to whom even Chuck Berry referred to as "The blackest sounding white male, I've ever heard". However, on this album all the members pitched in, plus few notable guests.

10. RAINBOW - Spotlight Kid
from "Difficult To Cure" CD ℗ 1981/1989

This is the only Hard Rock song my Father ever loved. Of course, he knew it by its translated title, which translated back to English, sounds something like this: Kid Under Spotlight. Now to make things worse, (or better, depends on your sense of humor) he would further re-title it to: Kid Under Gas, to what he never failed to refer himself, whenever he got sh*tfaced. Me? I love the whole album... and I got something to remind me of my late Father.

11. SCORPIONS - Crossfire
from "Love At First Sting" 2CD+DVD ℗ 1984/2015

There is lots of Scorpions in my collection and some of them I like more as a whole project than this one, but Love At First Sting, brings back some unforgettable memories. Plus two of their best songs are on this album.

ScOtt Fogsz Majd Sírni, Ahol Senki Se Lát...  You know Google translate works pretty well right?  But you're not the type to hold a grudge or take things too seriously are you?  Hmmm, I'm having Hypo Luxa flashbacks (ask Jon about that, it was his alter-ego)....

Ill bow out of any guesses on Guitartist Gone Solo, looking at the list as it builds tells me I know nothing of this category and I think I'm OK with that.  My gut says to do the same with the AOR section (With the exception of Prism, but in my defense I'm a Ron Tabak era fan, I bowed out of Prism after Small Change...) except I feel like I'll be too tempted to try, like today, so ....

My guesses this week ...

  • AOR:  Bryan Adams?  Waking Up The Neighbors
  • Metal: Accept?
  • Guitarist Gone Solo:  Not gunna do ti...

Huh?

You don't need google translate to know what "Ott Fogsz Majd Sirni Ahol Senki Se Lat" means. It's one of the HBB songs and every song has it's translation in the brackets. And the sentence doesn't have an exclamation mark, so it means You will be crying, where no one will see you... because you lost your leading position. Don't worry. There is still chance to change the ranking, just not with your Bryan Adams answer. I can tell you this; You know that AOR artist. And when I'll post the answer You will be crying again. Just sayin'. I'm giving you one chance to change it, because I hate to see you cry.

What is the Hypo Luxa flashback? Sounds like fun.

The Police

Motorhead

I hope it's not Mark Slaughter

AOR = The Police .... ???

Bryan Adams?????

At least he's AOR

OK. I don't want anyone to accuse me of favoritism, so I'll reveal that it's not Mark Slaughter, but You know the artist. In fact I'm expecting you to get this correctly so, you too have another chance to guess.

BTW what's the Hypo Luxa? Scott said you're an expert in the matter.

HBB started of pretty cool and then it started to drag. It's like the novelty wore off, even though they were all over the board.

Good Rainbow album.

Never heard of Scorpions. Man, I hate this album. So much that I didn't pick it up on CD until a couple years ago. Had it on cassette when it first came out and and liked it then but the more I listened to it, the more I hated it. Like the followup much, much better, but a lot of people don't. They're wrong.

Contrary to Scott's opinion (which is always wrong) Hypo Luxa is a guy I used to work with. His name is Steve C. and I welcome anyone to research that further.

Still have no idea about the clue for GGS so I'll leave it as is even though it's wrong.

Oh, OK.

I did my research. So Hypo Luxa is widely suspected to be a sockpuppet. Got it. But why does Scott think I'm one, too? (Well, I'm Yngve Jesus Chapleen, so of course it's not my real name, but other than that I'm as authentic as they come, here.) However, Scott's statement brings up another question: Who did he piss off, so badly to develop a sockpuppetofobia?

Hey! You did some mystery tracks. They sounded like fun. What made you stop? Let me guess: The song identifying app?

Savage Amusement is a great album. And so is Crazy World even though they stole the Winds Of Change from Status Quo. Heck, pretty much everything, except Eye II Eye is great or good at very least from them, but personal memories trump the other albums.

Nah, got bored with it. But, some folks did cheat.
