Classic Rock Bottom

Today we have 3 guitarists on a menu, and some of you  might ask, "Why three? Aren't they all the same?" No silly, not these III. They all operate on a different spectrum of music styles and far, far away from each other. That's why!

DAVID DREW - Safety Love (1988) - LP
This guy is Billy Idol AND Steve Stevens rolled into one digestible package. If you ever wondered what would a Sugarloaf classic sound covered by Billy Idol, wonder no longer since you are about to be enlightened. The album was released on a CD and people who have it are willing to get rid of it, for a modest price, but I think, I'm fine with what I got. So this was in the 80s. What happened to David since? Safety Love is the only listed project, I can find. Well, few years back, I heard few rumors about him. One was saying, he is preparing a Blues album, the other was more grim, telling us how he became a fisherman. I can't find any Blues album by him on the 'net, so he must be a fisherman.

JOE CEFALU - Demo Tape (1995) - Cassette
Back in the days, I read Guitar World and one of the articles I liked was written by Joe. I thought he knew what he was talking about, so I wrote him a letter, asking if he has recorded any music. To my surprise, he wrote me back and sent me his Demo Tape. I was grateful, but I had doubts in the quality of the material, since it came in a very simple packaging. However, you might have heard the expression, you shouldn't judge the book by its cover... And not only is he an amazing guitarist, but the sound quality of this tape is still one of the best I heard on any demo, ever. Then, I forgot about him. A quick google search revealed to me, that these days he's a session musician, a guitar teacher and has two CDs to his name. None of the titles on those 2 CDs sounded like the ones I have, so I dug deeper, and found that he also released a 4 track Maxi-CD, which has some of the songs, but not all of them. That makes me all warm and fuzzy inside... And Special. Oh, yeah. I'm special!

ADAM - Éva Nélkül (1988) - LP
Last week we heard Eva. This week it's Adam, from Newton Family and his aptly titled album "Without Eva". Adam was the guitarist and singer in Newton Family and he is the reason, I started listening to Newton, an otherwise Pop-Disco band. Neither Pop nor Disco was ever kind to a guitarist (if you don't believe me, try to isolate Andy Taylor's guitar on any Duran Duran album or Vinnie Cusano's (aka Vincent) playing on Dan Hartman's, Instant Replay). These modern age samurai's are treated like red headed step-children, but not when it comes to Adam. In Newton and on this solo release the guitars are sparse, but when they come in, they don't hold back... And I wouldn't have it any other way. And yes, there is very little chance, this album will ever see a CD formatting.

HA! I didn't read what you wrote until I finished and I thought the DD sounded like BI and it seems that I wasn't wrong! There's nothing wrong with fishermen. What's you're problem with them? (Ok, I find fishing BORING, but to each their own, I guess.)

JC was cool, kind of has that kind of heard it vibe though. You know, shredding. The end of the second song was funny. Childish but funny.

Oh, wow. Thought there was only the one playlist. Clicked on Adam and there's.....another? I guess I haven't clicked on others before. oops?

Yeah, there was tod bit o' geetar there. ABBA had more!

No problem with fishermen, but they do tend to sink at icefishing. And watching that is not exactly boring.

Oh man, you should click all over the place. It's fun and you never know what surprise I have in store for you, but yeah, I'm back on my free version of podsnack, which means I can only have 5 playlists at the time (and 5 songs at most on each), which further means, if you snooze... You loose.

I purposely kept the more guitar oriented Adam songs off the list, to make the listening more diverse. And yes, ABBA knew how to record guitars, too. Perhaps why I like their music, as well.
