Classic Rock Bottom

ALMA - Sex Bomb 1982 - LP
As I was approaching the record store at the mall in '82, from afar I noticed this album's cover hanging off the pillar over the bin. Instantly, I knew I had to have her... ahem... I mean have IT. It... The vinyl, that is. SEKS BOMBA was Alma's second release. I flipped the cover and I noticed the main title was written by Bora Djordjevic from "Riblja Corba" (Fish Stew - one of the greatest Yu-Rock bands), which sealed the deal for me. As I was getting ready to listen to it, I really lowered my expectations, since I heard her first album and let's just say, it failed to charm me. What I heard surprise me though. The music performance was great, but perhaps because of the high quality of the musicians on the album, her singing sounded atrocious. Or perhaps the mix of the  many music styles on the album  wasn't playing to her attributes. (Speaking of her attributes, in 1974 she was crowned Miss Bosnia and a second runner up to Miss Yugoslavia.) After SEKS BOMBA she released two other album's, more or less similar to her first project, which made me wonder who played on her second album? In Yugoslavia, the releases by solo artists rarely credited the musicians. I heard some rumors, that Bora wrote her a song on an initiative from the Fish Stew guitar player Rajko Kojic who together with the bands drummer played on this album, but could not confirm those speculations, with reliable certainty. Today, Alma resides and works in Paris, France, but I doubt it has anything to do with singing. Anyway, I still love the music and especially the playing on the album.

CRAAFT - Second Honeymoon 1988 - LP now CD
This album is what a doctor would prescribe to a patient with Melodic Metal deficiency and yet, I haven't heard of it until I started browsing the Ebays. And even then, the only reason I took note of this masterpiece, is because the CD regularly sold in excess of 10x the amount I stopped bidding at. Of course, this was way before Youtube, so I had no idea what the big fuss was about. One day, as I was leaving a small record shop specializing in 60s, 70s records I saw a discount bin, that said " $1 or less. No refunds!!". Not very promising either, but lo and behold, among all the beaten up Prog-Rock records, there was the Second Honeymoon, and in near mint condition, to boost that. Obviously, the owner wasn't much into Melodic Metal. His loss, my gain. Since then the album got a remastered reissue, but I was constantly putting it off, until I started listening to my vinyls for LTTP, here. Now it's time to retire the old LP and spin the brand new CD.

And last but not least, back by popular demand, yet another Billy Idol wannabe.

I'm not even sure that I've ever heard of either band.

Well, you're only a click away, to profess otherwise.

Well, at least the Alma album cover was better than the music inside. Actually accidentally listened to the player twice before I realized it had looped so there's that I suppose.

As for Craaft......no. Toss them in with any other like band at the time and there's no difference. At least it was marginally better than Alma and the last track was decent.

No Billy Idol wannabe? Shucks.
