This week we will go a little heavier than the last few weeks with a look at Megadeth's 1992 Double Platinum selling Countdown To Extinction.  I was not a Megadeth fan before this came out, and I can't
say that I'm that much of a fan now, but I really, really like this
album.  I don't own any other album by this band.  But this one just
strikes a chord with me.  I like the heaviness of their sound on this
album, although it sounds like it may be a bit over-produced.  And I
typically wouldn't care for vocals like Dave Mustaine's, but again, it
just works for me.

Singles:

Symphony Of Destruction
Foreclosure Of A Dream
Sweating Bullets
Skin 'o My Teeth

I don't think I can pick a favorite out of these 4 songs.  They are all equally outstanding.  The most non-traditional would probably be
Sweating Bullets.  I love the talk between the vocalist and his other
personality.  Very cool. Even without knowing Megadeth's catalog, I
would imagine all 4 of these belong in their Top 10.

Album Cuts:

I won't re-list all of the album cuts, but the top 2 on my list would easily be Architecture Of Aggression and This Was My Life.  I don't really understand why the latter of these two was never released
as a single.  It's an excellent song.  My second tier for this album,
which would be pretty good songs, would start with Countdown To
Extinction and High Speed Dirt.  Captive Honour is also pretty good.
Although I don't think they are quite as good as the songs listed above,
they are still very easy to listen to.

The only songs I don't care that much for are Psychotron and Ashes In Your Mouth.  Again, not terrible songs, but they just don't quite do it for me.

So, another week, another album.  I would think if you are already a Megadeth fan then you probably already own this.  If not, I do recommend it.  You can find it on Amazon for a very reasonable price.  And click here if you want to read the Wikipedia article on Countdown To Extinction.

Hidden Gem Award:

This goes to the song This Was My Life.  It's a great song that, as I mentioned before, should have been a single.

Next Week:

We close out the decade series with a look at an album from 2008 by my favorite current band.

Megadeth has always been one of those bands Ive tried to like but haven't yet, I'm half way through this one and liking it a lot!
Real nice RJHog! Loving this one a lot... I think Ive found whats been missing in my time spent listening to Megadeth. This is a very cool release. First listen and I went and bought it. Im now going to download several other releases from them in my Zune marketplace and go to Megadeth-town!!!

Awesome post

By the way, next week... wasn't Sonic Boom released in 09? So its not KISS... hmmmmm
Maybe I should clarify...my favorite post-grunge band, my favorite band that's current that isn't Kiss.
ok, that's a better clue... I'm going to guess Shinedown....
That might be a good guess...glad you like the Megadeth post. I think it's an excellent album. I can't say it's their best because I've never heard any others, but this is a good listen.
I just downloaded, Cryptic Warnings, Risk, and The World Needs A Hero, for starters. I listened to them in the background during work today and am about to plug them into my headphones for ride at the gym, turned up to 11 of course.... Away we go!!!!
Why don't they just leave 10 on your dial and just make it louder? (this is such a poor attempt at refrencing Spinal Tap I figured I better explain).

Maybe I should have left it at...Damn, you need a system that goes up to 12 like mine...
I've allways regretted, that I did'nt buy this album, when it was released in 1992, but I was a bit fed up with Metal-music at that time, and the only Megadeth-album I ever bought was "Peace sells, but who's buing", not a very good album imo, but I've allways liked this one, especially "Symphony of Destruction". Maybe some day, I'll buy it?!
Great followup to "Rust In Peace", which, in my opinion is their defining moment. But this one is definitely no slouch.

Kind of surprised that Rjhog picked his one, considering he's into soft rock.

And Kiss.
That succeeded in cracking me up...and I knew it would come from you.
You made me blush.
