The Verdict

There are four words in the title of this album and one of them describes my main emotion when listening to this album. That word is pain, and there's nothing beautiful about it.

The music on this albu, despite some glaringly self-indulgent moments, is pretty darn good. The gutiar work is top notch and I enjoyed most of the keyboards on the disc.

Then Robby Valentine opened his mouth. If I wanted to hear that kind of whiny caterwauling, I'd stay home from work and watch the divas on the daytime soap operas.

If you have the ability to take the vocals away from the CD as you listen, the tracks you might enjoy are "I Should Have Known Better", "I'm Going Under (Sedated)", "The Cold and Lonely Lie" and the blatant homage to Queen, "Magical Memories". The latter song is about the only one where the vocals aren't completely irritating.

Plainly put, I thought the vocals destroyed any momentum the music built up for the album. My rating below is solely for the music.

Isn't Valentine the band that sounds somewhat like Steve Perry?  I have one of their CD's and that's what I'm thinking.  Don't know if this is the same singer.

I don't know. After listening to this release I have never tried to listen to anything else. Check out the website link for the artist, maybe that will help you figure out the information.

I can't stomach listening to anything like this again.

No, I just checked.  The one I have is called Soul Salvation by a band called Valentine with a singer named Hugo.  I don't think it's great by any means, but Hugo sounds a lot, I mean a lot like Steve Perry.  So much so that I thought about doing a prank thread and posting the album with fake album art and calling it an unreleased S. Perry album as an April Fools joke a year or so ago.  Maybe I'll post it one of these days.

Hugo was also in a band called Valentine. I remember hearing Valentine on a radio show called "The Lost And Found" on a now dead radio station "95.9 KLZX" that I used to listen to in High School. The same radio station used to play Hugo songs also, from the first CD "1997". Yeah, very much like Journey. The CDs are on Frontiers Records.

Hugo - Hugo - 1997

Hugo - Time On Earth - 2000

Valentine "with Hugo" - 1990 - This CD is pretty rare. I've only seen bootlegs of it "in person" in the past. I've never bothered to Ebay it, but I have both Hugo CDs and they are OK/good.

This is a different Valentine. I wonder if it is on Spotify to check out.
