Classic Rock Bottom

It's time to celebrate 'Merica!! So were exploring the depths of my private collection looking for those perfect American tunes that can only come from American bands...

I have 4 cool ones, guaranteed! One is a repeat but with all the new folks listening (or not)  I figured this one deserved another spin! Why? Because this is America and I can do that if I want to!

Happy 4th of July to all of you, stay safe!

Survivor
Survivor
1979

1 - Somewhere In America

The album lightly impacted the charts, managing a placement of #169 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the Spring of 1980. However, the opening track "Somewhere In America" was a regional hit in the Chicago area, and the song "Youngblood", with its dramatic guitar intro, proved to be something of a blueprint for the band's smash hit of two years later, "Eye of the Tiger".

Cheap Trick
Heaven Tonight

2 - California Man

While their debut album Cheap Trick showed the band's darker, rawer side and In Color showed their lighter, poppier side, Heaven Tonight combined both elements to produce a hook-filled pop-rock album with an attitude. Popular songs from this album include the anthemic "Surrender", "Auf Wiedersehen", the title track, and a cover of The Move's "California Man". Heaven Tonight is also known as the first album ever recorded with a 12-string electric bass

Louisiana's LeRoux

3 - New Orleans Ladies

All of the songs on the self-titled 1978 debut album were sung and written by Pollard, except "New Orleans Ladies", which was written by Medica and Hoyt Garrick. It reached #59 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 1978. Two more albums followed but after neither was able to expand the band's fan base, they were dropped by Capitol. Starting with the Jai Winding-produced Up, they dropped "Louisiana's" from their name and became simply "LeRoux".

Atlanta Rhythm Section
A Rock and Roll Alternative
1976

4 - Georgia Rhythm

While ARS did not reach the commercial success of Lynyrd Skynyrd or The Allman Brothers, the group had a strong following in the South and charted a number of hits such as "Doraville", "I'm Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight", "Champagne Jam", "So in to You", "Imaginary Lover", "Do It Or Die", "Neon Nites", and a cover version of the Classics IV hit, "Spooky", plus fan favorites such as "Boogie Smoogie", "Jukin'", and "Georgia Rhythm".

Love the subject matter.

Survivor -  You have featured Survivor before.  I really like this, but have never heard it.  I want some early Survivor.  Must bite the bullet and pick some up.

CT - Awesome.  How can you listen to this song without singing along and tapping your foot (or your fingertips to the desk in a feeble attempt at drumming)?  It makes a person wanna move.  Great song.

L's LR - I remember this song from back in the day.  It's a terrific little ballad.  Hasn't changed, I still like it.

ARS - My home state.  I have picked up some ARS lately, mostly on vinyl.  This is one of those albums.  This is a pretty good song, pretty laid back, but my least favorite of the four.

Cool post Scott.  If I were to come up with a 4 song playlist based on:

1. America

2. California

3. New Orleans

4. Georgia

...my playlist would be:

1. Breakfast In America - Supertramp

2. California - Dreams So Real

3. Born On The Bayou - CCR

4. Oh, Atlanta - Bad Company (or Doraville by ARS)

A fine response and fine list indeed, but they have to be American Bands..

Uh oh...I forgot about that requirement.   Substitute I'm American by Queensryche for Supertramp and go with Doraville by ARS.  Now I'm good?

Totally!!

Oh, I SUPPOSE this was ok. Should have substituted "America" by heart for Leroux or Louisiana's Leroux or whatever they're calling themselves today. And whose butt are you trying to kiss by including a song about Georgia? Why didn't you include a song about Michigan? Actually, now I really don't like this playlist. I think this is the worst pile of SHT ever, especially since you repeated a song and played a song about Georgia instead of taking the time to honor ME. I would have even accepted a song about New Jersey as long as it wasn't a BJ song or something by Bruuuuuuuuuce.

I'm so upset I'm still not listening to last week's SHT. Changes need to be made and they need to be made quickly. You need to show me some R-E-S-P-E-C-T, you need to find out what it means to me.

Little hint of advice: when you light off that firecracker, hold onto it a little bit longer than you normally would. Live on the edge. Stop kissing butt. Be a man. Stand up for yourself.

Totally forgot about you and Michigan...   And who in their right mind, not named Bon Jovi or Springsteen,  writes songs about Jersey?  Nobody that's who (unless of course they are anti-Jersey tunes)...

I will not dignify this with an answer!
