Classic Rock Bottom

Don't get too comfortable with this early posting stuff. I'll be back on my regular schedule next week for those that care (and those that don't).

This week's pick is the 1982 release from Foghat titled "Girls To Chat & Boys To Bounce" and is the first Foghat album I bought all because of one song, "Live Now-Pay Later" which got quite a bit of airplay in my neck of the woods way back when. Funny thing, that song fits today perfectly due to the economy. Just listen to the lyrics and you'll see what I mean. I believe I posted that song as a mystery track before, maybe did, maybe didn't but no matter. It's back!

With the previous album "Tight Shoes", Foghat took a different approach to music incorporating more of a punk/new wave style to their blues-rock. This continues with "Girls..." with more of a new wave bent, but with a hint of the blues. This is also the first album without original guitarist Rod Price who was replaced with Erik Cartwright.

Just to prove the new wave thing, check out the back cover:

Don't they look kind of new wave? And no, I don't have an autographed copy of the album. I proudly stole the picture from the internet.

To me there's really not a dud song on the whole album but the three tracks I like the most are "Wide Boy" (seriously, this song sticks in your head, especially with lyrics like "6 feet from shoulder to shoulder and 5 feet from the ground"), "Live Now-Pay Later" and "Sing About Love".

Good stuff!

Girls To Chat & Boys To Bounce

1. Wide Boy

2. Let Me Get Close To You

3. Live Now - Pay Later

4. Love Zone

5. Delayed Reaction

6. Second Childhood

7. Weekend Driver

8. Sing About Love

Availability: Well, here's where it gets interesting. OOP in America but can be found for around $30. Or go the import route and it's around $40. Hey, might as well get this album with "Fool For The City" for around $205. Or go the route I took and get this album with "Tight Shoes", but good luck because it's OOP. Vinyl is much cheaper, around $6. Or, go the cassette route for $11. The possibilities are just endless.

MsoTW: Still waiting from something from #55. Congratulations to Scott for last week, he's a winner! This week should be very easy for Niels.

I own this on vinyl and I do remember your MSOTW from this as well.  If memory serves me correctly I nailed that one as well ...  And since Ive been listening to alittle of Stone and Biscuit and Stone Blue this is timely fo rme.  I will get right to it!

Im out on this weeks MSOTW , no clue!

You still have the vinyl? If so, just curious if the album has the same track listing as above. I dimly recall that the back album cover had the songs listed, but in the wrong order? That came back to me when I was searching for a picture of the back album cover and noticed that the track listing is way off from what I have, but it could be another album I'm foggily remembering.

All I have to say is............Wow!

Now for the Mystery Song: Sounds like Porcupine Tree a little.

Now for the Foghat album.  I'm not much of a Foghat fan, aside from the song Third Time Lucky and maybe Fool For The City and maybe Slow Ride.  This is definitely listenable, but won't really change my mind.  I do remember that mystery track.  I like that song.  Nice little guitar solo towards the end.

Well, I was waiting for Niels but I will have to bow down to Rjhog 'cause he was right!

As a prize, he wins a copy of "Music From 'The Elder'", autographed by Chris Makepeace!

Oh, sorry, Jon. I'll catch up next time around!!!

I had to pull it off the actual label on the LP to get it because the back cover is wrong...

Looks like the answer is they are the same.  Nice album by the way, that was a fun listen!

I was a big Foghat fan for a while, but kind of lost touch with them later on. Never heard this before, and it's just a little too popish for me. Foghat for me will always be "Fool For The City", "Stone Blue", "Night Shift", and the classic "Live".

But thanks for posting. Interesting to hear this. Listened twice.
