Classic Rock Bottom

Last week that PBR swilling other and I decided to try and bring some class to this here site. We put his drunken head and my clear-as-day head together and figured that we would offer up some classy music. Wine music.

Instead we were mocked and ridiculed (me more than him, but he probably didn't notice because of the PBR haze), and it really hurt (me more than him since he was in a PBR haze). Because of this we put our heads together again (mine steady, his wobbling back and forth due to the PBR haze) and decided to go back to the rock. The hell with class, right?

So this week I offer you 1997's release from Veruca Salt titled "Eight Arms To Hold You" (Beatles reference!) an album I picked up on cassette way back when when I saw one of their crazy videos.

When I read reviews about this album way back then, a lot of critics derided it because it was too "metal". Whatever. This is their second release and even though I have their debut ("American Thighs"), I really don't like it compared to this album. Maybe it's too alternative, but the critics sure loved that one. Oh yes they did. Again, whatever.

After this album, Nina Gordon left due to SOMETHING. Something happened, something bad. However Veruca Salt continued on with Louise Post and have released two other album. Nina Gordon has released two solo albums which, while more pop oriented, aren't too bad.

I'll admit that this album drags a bit after for the last third of the album but that last song is absolute killer. Also maybe it's me with the monkey infatuation because I love that line "You monkey, you left me" from "Shutterbug".

Not Forgotten!!! I have it on my iPod, Love It!!!

Just proves my point...you have CLASS!

MSOTW hmmm .....

this is An interesting song,
        I'M racking my
          Brain, but I got nothing.
    HowEver, I kind
          Of like it, although I
haveNt the slightest idea who it could be...

Keyboard issues?

You missed it didnt you...

 Ba...me no miss!

I have no clue on the mystery song (except for Ambeon from Scott, whatever that means), but I agree with him that it is interesting.  Maybe we'll hear more of it from Jon one of these days.

As for Veruca Salt, it started out great.  I really liked the first 2 songs.  Good and heavy.  The vocals are really good.  In some places the vocalist sounds like Susanna Hoffs from The Bangles.  As a matter of fact, this sounds like a heavier version of The Bangles, probably because of it's poppiness.

Anyway, other than Venus Man Trap, it all just kind of ran together for me.  I would rate this average overall, but definitely not difficult to listen to.  That last song's not bad either.

Earlier today I said I thought the Joan Jett was the best of "Ladies Month" so far, but I'm liking this a good bit, too!

Don't have a clue who the mystery song is, but its pretty good. The album is not bad, either. Once again, this is not something I'd pursue as a purchase, but I do like it. Beginning my second listen through now!

Both good choices this week by RJ and Jon!!

But I do have a suggestion before ladies week is over...this is to Jon, mainly, since I know he has it, and likes it. What about "Freaks Of Nature" by Drain STH??? I know Jon likes it, I like it, and others might as well. They are from Sweden, so perhaps Neils, being in that area of the world, has heard them as well? It would be interesting to see if others like it or not. (Public hinting IS ALLOWED!  )

Ahh...that can be done! And it will be! Great pick, was wondering what to pull out of my hat for the last week of March!

I heard Crack The Liar's Smile from their first album Horror Wrestling on XM Friday.  I must say I liked it.  So I'm looking forward to next week's post.
