Classic Rock Bottom

This week we're going all the way back to 1999 and the release from Heaven & Earth (featuring Stuart Smith) titled "Heaven & Earth". Or is it titled "Heaven & Earth (Featuring Stuart Smith)"? Maybe it's titled "Heaven & Earth Featuring Stuart Smith" which I guess we can shorten to "H&EFSS".

Let's see who's on this album, shall we?

Stuart Smith (he plays geetar quite ok)

Glenn Hughes (he was in Deep Purple for a bit, plus a couple other bands and I think he does solo stuff too, but not that sure)

Paul Shortino (he sings and was in Rough Cutt, a band I didn't like after hearing their first album because I thought it was yucky)

Bobby Kimball (he sings too, he was in either Poco or Toto, always get those two bands mixed up)

Howard Leeds (he plays geetar, he played in Heart, but not any longer)

Joe Lynn Turner (he sings too, think he's been in a billion bands)

Kelly Hansen (another singer)

Richie Sambora (he plays geetar in some band that I refuse to mention)

Steve Priest (he thumps the bass and was in a band that had a song about a fox that was running)

And there's more, but that's all I feel like mentioning.

It's a blues/rock album. There's also a couple cover tunes if you're into that sort of thing.

Enjoy if you can.....

I was going to make a comment about something and then I scrolled down to this pic!  YES!!!  Totally forgot what I was thinking.

She's smokin'!

Oh yeah...  DId you get bored with me guessing every MSOTW?  Tired of me dominating, right?

Nah...just whip it out on special occasions.

Okay, I have to admit, I had no idea who Stuart Smith is.  So I looked it up.  It seems as he was a guitarist for Sweet.  Is that correct?

Anyway, as usual, solo albums with different singers are really hit and miss.  I don't usually like them (one exception was the last solo album by Slash).  This has some strong stuff as well.  The first track is really good, very heavy.  I also like the 80's sounding second track.  And of course, I love the Glen Hughes vocals on the third song.

And is that Richie Sambora on vocals on the fourth track?  I think so.  Nice cover.  The cover of Still Got The Blues is very good too.  I just finished Shadow Of The Tyburn Tree, which is a cool song.  This stuff is pretty good Jon.  Great guitar work all over this mother.

For the re-formed Sweet, not an original geetarist.

Two notes to start...

  1. Save this album cover so we can use it in the "Worst Album Covers" contest later.
  2. Bobby Kimball was in Toto, not Poco, although both bands are killer!

But looks are deceiving because that opening tune is a scorcher!  Love the jam session to end it!   The Glenn Hughes track sounded like it was lifted straight off the new BCC album!  Nice work...  Whoever the keyboardist is, great Work!!!  Love the jamming.

The balance of the album is pretty good too, theres alot of really solid musicianship here, and so Im surprised this is so foreign to us on here.  Maybe is was an idependant label that released it or it was more of a regional thing.

Nice post!

Poco/Toto. What's the diff?

Blasphemy!!!

I finally, got around to listening to this & was pleasantly surprised!!!  The guitar is Amazing, it just speaks to the soul! I loved the opening track & thought "Hey, This Rocks"!!! Then about the 3rd track, it switched to a Kick Butt Blues album!!! Yeah, these guys can play!!! Great Find, Jon!!!
