Classic Rock Bottom

And it continues.....

First though, let's discuss the album cover. What does it mean? Could that being be the unmasked entity from the "Argus" cover? Are the turbines symbolizing the Flying V geetar or is there a deeper meaning? What about the ring?

"The Power Of Eternity" was released in 2007, 5 years after last week's pick and one year after next week's pick (I went out of order, so sue me).

Now, for those who don't like the vocal stylings of Andy Powell, well, I'm sorry because he sings all the songs here. I like his singing, it's something you have to grow into I think.

But why am I talking about the vocals? As you have come to know the last few weeks, it's all about the geetars. And there's plenty of those here. Nothing really heavy, pretty much laid-back but rocking.

With this album released 37 years after their debut you still gotta give this band credit. Granted there have been many, many different members with the constant being Andy Powell, but to still put out quality music like this so many years later is certainly admirable, especially when the music doesn't suck.

The artistry is stunning.   The eyes pierce through you letting you know this is going to be something you will never forget.  The hand that's up says "STOP, pay attention to every detail you'll it appreciate later" - while the one hand down says "C'mon in, your about to enjoy something special!"

I'll get to the music later, but first... Whats her name?

You've been drinking wine again, haven't you!

More screw top... Boones Farm

You guys are nuts - and I am looking forward to hear this Album....

Ok, as I see it, the album cover's sybolism is quite simple:

The Power - Represented by the Wind Turbines.

of Eternity - Represented by the gold band, which symbolizes continuous, never-ending, eternal. The band is on the right ring finger, which suggests:

1) The man is from another country. Some countries such as Gemanay, wear their wedding bands on the right hand.

2). The man is a musician. Some musicians wear their wedding bands on the right hand, so that it doesn't interfere with their playing.

The unknown figure is green - First thought, he's an alien from another planet. Or perhaps, the color represents the "Green Movement". "Conserve Energy". "Protect The Enviroment", "Be More Efficient". This point is also, reenforced by the wind turbines.

The fact that "The Power Of Eternity" is painted on his chest, tells us the problem is in front of us & should be on our concious. The barren planet shows us what the world will look like, if we don't conserve.

That's impressive!

Say wha?

I'm sorry, but my response pales in comparison to Mike's.  This is definitely my least favorite of the WA albums so far.  Again, and I sound like a broken record, the music is terrific.  It's not that I can't handle the vocals, but I don't like 'em.  Could this be a band that never made it specifically because of their vocals?  Just wondering.

Don't think it's the vocals, it's really an acquired taste I think. One of the main things, I think. is that there is/was an absence of airplay. I have never heard a Wishbone Ash song on the radio.

Maybe the lack of airplay was from the lack of good vocals (I'm not sure if this is a question or a statement).

Ehh...LEAVE THIS ROOM!

I listened, but I still haven't recaptured the same feeling I felt while listening to Argus. Andy Powell's vocal style is definitely, one that you have to aquire a taste for. There are times, when his style reminds me of Peter Garrett from Midnight Oil. It comes off a little harsh & abrasive, but once you embrace it, you're able to appreciate the totality of the work. I've have come to that point with Peter Garrett & Midnight Oil, I totally enjoy his vocals & think their work is Amazing. While not totally turned away by Powell's vocals, I just have not developed a love for it yet.

I know,  that when you find a band that you're passionate about, you want to share that passion with everyone & although we have some commonalities, everyone's individual taste is different. That's what makes music so Amazing &  fun to discuss. The verdict is still out on Wishbone Ash for me. There's no question, they're musically talented, but I'm not sure their style is one that will drive me to multiple listens. I'm looking forward to the cappers, the albums you have been saving for the finale!
