Classic Rock Bottom

After 1985's "Standing On The Edge" I gave up on Cheap Trick. The next three albums absolutely sucked and I basically forgot about them.

Then, around 1994-95, I was in a record store and checking out the cutout bin. IN there was a cassette from a band called Cheap Trick, but it didn't have the normal Cheap Trick logo. Kinda looked like they were going for a new look, a rebirth I guess you could say. The new logo looked messy, made me think they were going back to basics, maybe putting the previous 9 or so years behind them. Or something like that.

With an awesome price of .99, I went ahead and plunked down my hard earned cash and the cassette was MINE!. Hell, it was cheap and if it sucked, it sucked. No big deal.

Surprise, surprise. This wasn't the "Lap Of Luxury" or "Busted" Cheap Trick. This was the Cheap Trick who ROCKED. When that first song started, I was impressed. Cheap Trick were back!

This album did not leave the car for months. I listened to this puppy over and over again, it was/is so damned good. And everytime I listened to it, it was like I heard a new song everytime, something I thought I hadn't heard before. Even the "weird" song is cool ("Ride The Pony").

The followup ("Cheap Trick") was, IMHO, even better than "Woke Up With A Monster" and that one turned up in cutout bins very quickly as well. Never got it, why was everyone so turned off by Cheap Trick during this time period?

Oh well, they're missing out on some really good music but you don't have to because you can listen to it HERE.

MSoTW: Niels correctly guessed Tygers Of Pan Tang last week. This week I'm kind of taking a page out of Scott's book and picked a mellow song. That makes me cry. Like a little girl.

I hope (and I'm sure) you aren't waiting on me, 'cause I have no clue.
No way.
