Classic Rock Bottom

Lost Album of the Week
by Scott
December 28th 2010

Jon is on a well deserved sabbatical this week, so I thought I would do something I've been dying to try for awhile now.  And that's to post a long forgotten album.  Our forums are similar in that we get a chance to post cool tracks/albums that make up our musical identity and we think you would enjoy as well.  So...

This week, I decided to post the follow-up album to Axe's 1981 release titled 'Offering'.  In 1981 Axe struck gold, literally, and successfully toured on the heels of tracks like "Rock and Roll Party In The Streets", "Burn the City Down", "Video Inspiration", and the top 40 radio hit "Now or Never".

I simply remember cranking the twin guitar attack up as loud as we could, and cruisin' the strip in my hometown.  Occasionally we'd hit the park, crank it up and play hackey-sack.  We'd also open the car doors in the School parking lot and jam at lunch time.  Axe got lots of airplay to say the least.

So when they released the follow-up to Offering, it was an automatic buy.  Nemesis came out with with a bang and died only days later, fading into the used bins of record stores everywhere. Maybe it wasn't hair enough?  Oh well, thankfully the hard core listeners demanded release on CD and so it is available quite easily for around 15 bucks, or download for around 9 bucks.

Enjoy...

Oh yeah!  Ive been wanting to do an MSoTW!  Good Luck RJ, you should get this one.  By the way, the last MSoTW was a band called "Racer X" its a project involving Mr. Big guitarist Paul Gilbert.  I had no idea, but stumbled onto it via google...

Hope you enjoy ...  And thanks Jon!

Does the band's name start with "B"?
The bands does indeed start with a B - I think you have it now...  I'm calling!

Wait!

Is the band's name also the name of a Van Halen album?

Yes
My work is done...
Understand. RJ should be able to get it from here. But just in case here's one last clue ... the bands name is not 1984....
Tee hee
Does the album name begin with a "B" and end with an "alance"?
Is it BALANCE?? Man, I'm good at this!!!!

We have a winner...  Balance actually hit the charts with a track titled Breaking Away in the 80's off a self titled album that was very poppy.  The follow up titled "In For the Count" featured a more guitar driven rock and roll sound and is the better of the releases.  This song, titled Slow Motion, was released as a single, and found some airplay on FM stations at the time.  But it didnt go anywhere. They actually recorded a third album which  got shelved until 2007-8 when the reentered the studio and finished the album and released it.   It quickly faded away and is a hard to find CD.  Ive heard sound bytes and it no where near as strong as In For the Count...

Thanks Jon for teaching us how to play MSOTW!!

Some thanks needs to go to Scott as well, for giving some "DECENT" clues...and thanks to Niels for taking one look at my reply and getting it right off the bat.

There's no right or wrong way to play MSOTW.

Only my way.

And is that a dig at me? The decent clues thing? Huh, is it?
