Interesting story about this band.......

In 1985 a music exec was watching "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" and was immediately struck with how cool the actor who played Ironbar looked.

He looked so cool thatthe exec hunted down the actor and told him he should get a group of guys together and form a band. With his backing, they would be huge.

So the actor, Angry Anderson, did just that and Rose Tattoo was formed in the 70's. However, they were big in Australia so not really big elsewhere so the whole band stomped a mudhole in the music exec. (Google it if you don't believe me.)

This week's pick is the fourth album from Rose Tattoo, released in 1982. I bought it because, by looking at the album cover, it seemed these guys would rock. And they did! Because they all have tattoos!

You know my love for the whocka whocka geetar (TM) but there's none of that here. However, there's lot's of slide geetar which is kinda cool, as long as it's done right.

Since they're from Australia I guess comparisons to AC/DC would be expected, just like Men At Work are always compared AC/DC. I guess in a way they kinda are, but really not. All because of the slide geetar.

Hard rock, heavy metal, boogie rock, pub rock...call it what you will but it's a fun listen all the way through. All this from an actor....take THAT Kylie Minogue!

MSoTW: Last week it was Scott. This week it will be? Heck, if you got this album, it should be easy. Think about that for a second because it's really stupid.

I own the MSoTW album, so yes, very easy...  I will let it play out though...  Love the back story and the photo of Kylie!  Will listen later today...

I have no idea, who this week's MSoTW is, so don't wait for me.

Rose Tatoo, eh?! I was never a big fan, but it's okay. Sounds a bit like Georgia Satelites (or AC/DC of course).

GREAT picture of Kylie!!! Me like!!!

I got most of the way throiugh this last night but had a power outage in my area so I finished this morning while loggin into work...

I thought it started out promising, the first track wasnt really anything special, but I thought it had promise.  But as the tracks played through it really started to sound very much like one big long song.  The only song that sounded slightly different from the other was Sydney Girls.

This was my first ever listen to Rose Tattoo, so I wonder if their earlier work is more inspired?  Cool band name though!

I thought the same way when I first heard it years ago, but listening again (and again) I felt differently. Maybe you will too, hmmmmm?

Interesting story even though you say in tiny print at the bottom that it's a lie.  We'll pretend it's the truth.  Hey, look at the guy directly behind the bald dude, he looks like Vinnie Jones (the dude from Snatch).  Anyway, they are definitely a well-tatooed band.  To bad the album's not that great.  It's not the worst I've ever heard though.  Some of the guitar playing was nice.

No idea on the mystery song...it'a a mystery to me.

OK Jon, they need a MSoTW clue... Theyre gonna be shocked!

OK!

They're named after a city.

In what country?

US. Come on people!

Scott is laughing right now, I know it!

I have no idea. Washington DC?

I'll take Kylie Minogue!

Anytime, anyplace, lol!
