Classic Rock Bottom

Since the first few months of this year have been pretty weak on the new release side, I went through Martin Popoff's "The Collector's Guide To Heavy Metal Volume 3: The Nineties" to see if anything caught my eye enough to warrant a purchase.

When I came to Harem Scarem, he basically trashed their first album, kinda liked the second and really liked this one which he stated that it kind of sounded like a "down-tuned King's X" which sucked me right in. So I decided, what the heck, I'll pick it up since he hasn't steered me wrong yet.

And he still hasn't steered me wrong. The first listen I really liked it(I heard a LITTLE bit of King's X, but it's more along the lines of Lillian Axe to me), the second time liked it even more and, listening to it again, really like it even more.

I want to pick up more from Harem Scarem, but reading the reviews of other albums, it seems like subsequent albums are different from this which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I don't want to waste money on something I don't like. Good thing Tageryche knows a bit about this band and can maybe do a little comparison between this album and the one he recently posted? Huh, can you?

Anyway, the title of this album is "Voice Of Reason" which came out in '95.

And there you have it.

MSoTW: Rjhog has actually correctly guessed two in a row. It won't be three, I can guarantee it. And, when he doesn't, it'll just prove my point.

Now, that's not fair. Did'nt I "say" this last week: "She's definetly hotter than Kylie!!!" I wanna see the other one in her underwear!!!
Oh, by the way. I have NO idea, who MSoTW is!!!!!
Oops, I will try and track one down.

Lets take care of business before we talk about the album...

1 - No freakin' clue on the MSOTW.  As this is Easter, I will have to pray that since this is a tough one that we dont resort to scare tactics like bad plastic surgery pics next week...

2 - I liked last weeks pic fine, it was just that Kylie typically wears less clothes..

Now onto Harem Scarem...

Heard of them, just never heard them.  This album seems like a good place to start.  I didnt really care for the first track though, but I liked most everything after that.  I really liked the guitar sound they produce, pretty cool.  Some of the songs seemed to drone...  (Let It Go, and Necessary Evil specifically).  Not sure this is a purchase for me, but I would definitely take your advice and give them another chance.

First things first:

I do know the mystery song.  I guess enough time has gone by for me to tell everybody that it's Proto-Kaw, the song being titled Greenburg, Glickstein, Charles, David, Smith and Jones.  It comes from the album Before Became After which was released in 2004.  It's okay Jon, don't take it too hard.  I really did give everybody else a couple of days to get it before me.

Now, onto Harem Scarem.  Overall, I like this.  Unlike Scott, I loved, I mean loved the first song.  I also thought the second track was very good.  Hey, I even liked track 3 with the wocka-wocka geetar.  It did start to bog down a bit with track 4 through 7, but tracks 6 and 7 were still quite good.  I have one album by Harem Scarem (Human Nature) that is more melodic/pop sounding with a few really good tracks.  This is much heavier, but I like the sound of both albums.  Maybe it's time to delve a little deeper.

P.S. Jon, if you want me to post Human Nature, let me know.  I can get it in AOTW in the next week or two.

I'm not insinuating anything, but how come, that you out of nowhere, now is some kind of MSoTW-superhero???

You may be onto something Niels,  it seems that Jon and RJ are a little "too in sync"...  hmmmm
You haven't been reading my replies very carefully.  As I said, I've known every MSoTW posted, but I wanted to sound normal, and not like the MSoTW Superhero that I am.  Therefore I played dumb for quite a while, until Jon called me out one to many times.  Now I have to get back to work on the design for my Superhero costume.
I wanna see a picture, when you're done.

What he said ^^^^
