Classic Rock Bottom

Let's go back around 25 years ago......

There's two high school kids that want to form a band. Their thinking is that metal is going to be huge one day and want to get a jump-start on everyone else so they drop out of school (much to their teachers, parents and guidance counselors dismay) and start writing songs.

Colleges are really mad they decoded to go this route because these kids were geniuses. Straight A students, debate team award winners, editors of the school paper, captains of the swim team and cheer leading squad...why, the list goes on and on.

But these kids didn't care about that. They just wanted to write and perform music and make lots and lots of money so they could buy lots and lots of houses and lots and lots of really cool cars.

After a couple years of writing, they finally decided they were done. They put an ad in the local paper seeking others to join the band. After many, many auditions, they finally had what they thought was the perfect core and started recording.

A year later they were done. They submitted the tapes to every record label known to man and waited for the good news.

Sadly, the never got that news because they never heard back from any of those record labels.

So, instead of forging ahead, the two kids broke up the band and one got a job at a convenience store while the other went to work at a car wash. They still work there to this day, wondering what could have happened.

A very sad story indeed.

Luckily for you, I have this album that you can listen to.

"we Rock" sounds like a cross between Whitesnake from the mid-80's with Freddie Mercury on vocals and something from European Music contest. That means, I don't like it. The second track is even worse. Listening to "Hold on the night", I don't know if the singer wants to be Freddie or Coverdale? That song is a Whitesnake RIP-OFF. Oh, now they want to be the Beatles on "Burying Heather". And we're back to Queen/Whitesnake again on "Hell Hounds..". I'll think I'll give it a rest
MSOTW has to be James Labrie on vocals, but I dont think its a Dream Theater track.  OH MSOTWMan where are you!!!???
He's retired.  I cannot locate him.

We need feedback from Jon to see if you are on the right track...

Could be...shame that MSoTWman is

I'll give you LaBrie. But who else? What "band"?

I agree with Niels, this band definitely sounds like Freddie Mercury meets Whitesnake.  Musically, it sounds like they found a bunch of basic Whitesnake tracks that were never used and created songs around them.  And to me, the singer sounds a lot like Freddie Mercury.  I mean a lot in some places.

Burying Heather is a complete rip from The Beatles' Eleanor Rigby.

The album mellows a good bit towards the end.

This band definitely has/had some potential.  A very decent vocalist, although he strains a little on some of the higher register stuff, and some pretty good guitar playing.

My overall verdict is that I would pass on this particular album, but I wouldn't hesitate to listen to a newer album by the same band, if they were still around.  The best song is the first one.

Good choice for a lost/forgotten album Jon.

I dont know how to feel about this album.  I defintely hear the Freddie imitation, and the Whitesnake riffs, but what I dont hear is anything original about this band.  Just another 80's hair band, so I guess I do know how I feel about it.

Love the Fish Called Wanda pic, and the very nice return to the Kylie movement you started.

You know, sometimes I read and listen to these reviews of "lost" bands and wonder how you guys know about all these bands.  You all blow my mind with your knowledge and collection.

Cool to think about...

Shockingly, this album is from 1978. So, who stole from whom?

So the album's title is 2005?  I'm confused.

They were looking into the future, man! Like, do you think "2001: A Space Odyssey" was written in 2001? I think not!
