Classic Rock Bottom

Got a chance to see Lynch Mob at a small club in Buford, Georgia...on a Tuesday night, no less!

The place was packed, standing room only. Was surprised to see so many older folks, like myself, at this show. Lots of old Dokken fans, perhaps? Anyway, I truly enjoyed this show, but was disappointed there was not more new material from the latest Lynch Mob release "Smoke And Mirrors", which is very, very good in my opinion. The set list did include 4 or 5 Dokken tunes, and a good bit from the outstanding, classic, original Lynch Mob release, "Wicked Sensation".

Oni Logan was impressive on vocals. Has great range and a strong stage prescence. Wild Mick Brown was on drums, and was the usual Wild Mick. Funny man who would occassionally, between songs, say something...and usually it provided a good laugh. But everyone was there to see and hear George Lynch shred...and he did plenty of that. At one point, during a lead break George was playing, he moved over towards the drum riser, where Mick and the bass player were jamming, and I saw him say "keep going, keep going". It turned into an improptu, extended jam session, and George just wailed. Killer, spur of the moment...umm, moment!

All in all, a great night of rock n roll, up close and personal! If I have any complaints, it would be this: George played quite a few different guitars that night, and several of them only had one pick-up, and during those songs, the high end of the sound spectrum was almost overwhelming...just too bright of a sound for my tastes. I even had a few moments of pain in the ears, because of the extreme high tone of those "treble pickup only" guitars. Also, George smiled like once the whole night. It was obvious he was enjoying his profession, but I was surprised he seemed so distant, almost moody, and business-like. If he would lighten up a little, maybe he would enjoy himself even more.
