Classic Rock Bottom

New discussions, other than AOTW, LFAOTW, SHT, NMC and some reviews are few and far between on here these days.  So let's have one.  Let's talk about media rooms.

Mine finally exists.  We bought a new house about 3 months ago and I have a fourth bedroom that gets to be my media room.  Problem is, I don't have much organization as of yet.  In my last home, we had zero storage space, so I took every CD out of it's case and put them in portable cd cases like you would keep in your vehicle.  Now I wanna put them back in the cd cases.  My biggest problem is that I have no shelving of any sort at this point.  And the room isn't huge, it's approximately 12 feet by 12 feet.  I have basically two walls to work with.  One wall has a closet and the other has a double window.  So one of the two available walls will have to house the media hardware.  By the way, the photo above is not my room, just a picture from the internet.

So basically, do you have a media room?  How is it set up?  Desk or no desk?  Photos?

No desk. It's just filled with movies and CD's.

What kind of shelving?  Built-ins?  Pre-fabricated shelving?

Shelves built for the movies, one huge cd storage unit, 2 large and 2 small.

You look in the door, all the movies are straight ahead. To the right is the big cd unit with the rest forming a half circle around it. Plus, in my office, there's movies to the left, right and behind me. I have way too much crap.

You definitely have more stuff than me.  I have about 400 or so movies, but I have no interest in displaying the cases.  I'll keep those in the portable cases.  I just want some sort of shelving for the cd's, box sets and probably some vinyl.

I kind of have one...  It our bonus room.  Have 5 geetars (3 electric, 1 acoustic and bass) and PA system that rocked the foundation, plus all our games, videos, vinyl and CD's..  But...

I moved the PA system into the gym I go to and the guitars have kind of moved on with my sons...  That and my wife made me buy a bedroom set for guests, so there went that idea...

I did invest in my computer setup since my last one crashed...  So my media room is more of a digital media room now.  I replaced my computer speakers with Samson Studio Montiors and TruStudio Pro THX sound blaster card.  The sound is way better than any stereo setup I've ever owned.  I also learned my lesson about backing up my file libraries.  So I have a external 2TB WD drive that takes care of that for me....

I will add...  I've always wanted to wallpaper that room with my vinyl album covers, but I'm afraid of how permanent that would be

How do you store your cd's?

I have two large cases (6 shelves each) full and some overflow that I need another shelf for...

I have a bunch of vinyl in frames. Some are on the wall leading down into the basement, some on the basement walls a a bunch in the media room thing, or The Green Room since it has this awful dark green carpet.

Wow! Media-room? In my dreams!

We don't have THAT big a house, so there's not that much space anymore for my CD's etc. etc.

That's one of the reasons why I the last couple of years have dowloaded more and more music, instead of buying cd's, and why I buy music-magazines through apps.

I've got a pretty big "CD-shelve" in our livingroom, where there are 350-400 cd's. Then I've got another "shelve" in the "computer-room" with 200-250 cd's. I've got a closet full of box-sets (around 30) and 200 DVD's/blueray (half music, half movies) and our bookshelve in the livingroom is full of "music-books" autobiographies and such.

It would had been great with a media-room, because I think my wife have had it "up to here" regarding my music-stuff.

I've thrown away a lot of cd's, hundreds of vinyls, VHS-tapes, magazines and other music-related stuff because of "need of space", and that's a shame. Last year I gave a friend of mine 500 of my old vinyl-albums and a big box of comic-books, and only kept the first 6 KISS-albums (and some of my oldest MARVEL "Kung Fu"-comics), because the KISS-albums where the first I got in 1977, and holds a lot of memory.
