So I went back and found two releases from Volbeat, one from 2004 titled "The Strength/The Sound/The Songs" and one from 2008 titled "Guitar Gangsters and Cadillac Blood". And they sound different than what Niels posted. Sounds more like a band searching for their identity. I just hope they found it with this new release. Cause its a really good sound for them.

Interestingly, in the 2004 release they have a remake of the old Bay City Rollers "I only wanna be with you". This at least gives you the difference between then and what Niels has found for us. But then again, if I purchase this new one, I would definitely be cautious of their next release to see if they change it up again. Volbeat rocks. Cool, I'm glad you three guys like MOST of the music. My favorite of these album is Manic Street Preachers. It was the only album, that I had trouble finding the right tracks. It's a good album the whole way through. It's very cool, that you all like Volbeat.

I like this post Niels. Here is my take:

Volbeat (Thumbs Up)

I agree with Scott and Jon. This is terrific. I want it, but it's an import (mucho dinero). But it looks like I can pick it up from Amazon Market Place for about the normal price. I'm getting it. It sounds very fresh to me.

Manic Street Preachers (Thumbs Up)

I'll agree more with Jon, but I may like this a bit more than he does. I'd like to have it, but again it's an import. I'll probably stew on this…
Tom Petty (Thumbs Even, but pointed slightly down)

Though not bad, I'd tend to agree with Scott that I'm more of a "hits" fan of Petty's. I own this, but I'll probably never listen to it again.

My ranking would be:

1. Volbeat
2. Manic Street Preachers
3. Tom Petty Volbeat *** (out of four, and…tag:classic-rock-bottom.ning.com,2010-10-23:6060463:Comment:81742010-10-23T17:40:28.000ZJonhttp://classic-rock-bottom.ning.com/profile/JonCStephenson
Volbeat *** (out of four, and to be different from Scott)

I dig this! Didn't get bored listening to those 5 track. I like the heaviness.

Manic Street Preachers (**)

Not bad, but not great. Not running out to buy this album, but did like "A Billion Balconies....". I liked the manicness of it. (Hey, if Scott can do it then so can I!)

Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers (***)

Volbeat... (Thumbs way up)
Hey this band is really quite good, nice thick/robust sound and a new twist with the rockabilly thing. I was really curious to hear that in the tracks you chose. My least favorite track was A New Day, but even that one was good. I need to look into this band further

Manic Street Preachers... (Thumbs down)
Maybe they're better street preachers. Didn't hear anything that made me want to listen. Just not my cup of tea.
I like Tom Petty, but I'm just a greatest hits fan, I don't know much more about him than that. But that's not because I haven't tried, I have Damn The Torpedoes on vinyl, and my brother had a few of his later releases. I just lost interest after awhile. The Jefferson Jericho song didn't spark much interest, but hey, I really liked the remaining selections enough to try to give this a couple more listens.

I like NMC, it so cool to check all these out even if they don't all work!

Nice Post Niels!
