Classic Rock Bottom

The last time, I posted some albums in NMC, one of them was a pure 10/10 for me, and it will probably end at the very top, on my personal list at the end of the year, but these two albums continue to grow on me after several listenings, and both of them are 9/10-albums, well in my opinion. It wouldn't surprise me, if both of them ended up in my top-5 of this years albums, but who knows. I still need to hear new albums from Tom Waits, Coldplay, Steven Wilson, Mastodon, Jane's Addiction, Steve Hackett, Chickenfoot and probably a few more. But now, on to these two indeed very good albums:

DREAM THEATER - A DRAMATIC TURN OF EVENTS

1. Build Me Up, Break Me Down
2. Lost Not Forgotten
3. This Is The Life
4. Bridges In The Sky
5. Beneath The Surface

I won't put in a review from some online magazine this time around, just say, that I agree a bit with Classic Rock Magazine, that the album has a FEW dud moments, but not one bad track. But I don't agree about the 7/10-review, the magazine gave the album!!

OPETH - HERITAGE

1. The Devil's Orchard
2. Slither
3. The Lines In My Hand
4. Folklore
5. Pyre (Bonus track)

To those, who might have this album (Jon?), I don't think, that you have the version with 2 bonus-tracks, where I have chosen one of them, but I could easily have chosen the other one, because it's one of the best ballads, I've heard this year. In fact, I had a little "problem", picking only 5 songs, because it's a very strong album, well in my opinion. Hard to believe, that they are from Sweden!!

If you like the 70's versions of Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Jethro Tull, I'm sure you'll like this album.

Well, there you have it. Don't miss out the opportunity to listen to this fine music, and you only have to click here:

Yep, I have the special edition with the two bonus tracks, 5.1 mix AND the 3D cover!
Okay, scratch Chickenfoot from the albums, I need to hear. I've heard plenty, and it's NOT a purchase for me!!!!!!!

Dream Theater (Thumbs Even)

I really thought I might like this better than I do.  Don't get me wrong, it's okay, but I'm not into wholesale shredding anymore.  I was gonna get this, but I think I'll hold off.

Opeth (Thumbs 3/4 Up)

This is better.  I'm not crazy about the vocals, but they aren't terrible.  I like it a lot better musically.  I'm on the fence with this as far as purchasing.  I'll have to mull it over.

Dream Theater ...  Two Thumbs way up

I too think this is a top 3 of 2011 album.  So far thats the way its shaping up in my list anyway

Opeth ... One thumb even and one thumb down

I like the first tune but Slither and that Lines song werent very good IMO.  Folklore was decent though it droned on a bit and Pyre, well ... eh..  thats 2 out of 5 I liked for a whopping 40% to the good.  So that means one thumb down and one even.

Dream Theater--Thumbs Neutral

I'm going to have to listen to it again. It's not bad but thinking about it, I don't remember anything from it from a couple weeks ago. Not in my top 5 of favorite albums of the year at this time.

Opeth--Thumbs Neutral

Ok, this is the one I was waiting for and, except for maybe the first real song, nothing really grabbed me. All their other releases have immediately grabbed me with something, this one not too much. Like DT, I'll need to listen to it a few times to get my real opinion. One thing I remember is some Jethro Tull in one of the songs....

So, I have taken the cheap and easy way out. None of these albums are horrible but, especially with Opeth, I expected much more.
