Classic Rock Bottom

Fastway--Eat Dog Eat (April 2012)

The first all new studio album since 1990, Fastway come roaring back with a nice slab of hard rock. Those expecting something along the lines of the classic self-titled debut or even the followup ("All Fired Up") may be a little bit disappointed, but it's actually a decent album. If you go into this with no expectations, you should be pleasantly surprised. Only thing that bugged me is that the lead singer, Toby Jepson, sounded too much like Jon Bon Jovi on one song. So, figure that one out!

Accept--Stalingrad: Brothers In Death (April 2012)

The second album from the re-formed Accept with singer Mark Tornillo is another awesome slab of Teutonic Metal (is that copyrighted?) Quite simply put: if you liked "Blood Of Nations", you'll like this one. Hell, it's Accept so you know what you're in for! Oh yes, "the axework positively carves".

Some idiot counted 71 twice!! Geeeeez.

I know! Must be the "new" math.

FASTWAY - 4 out of 6

At first listen, I thought this was sounding pretty good, some of the tracks are still very good, especially the first one and "Sick As A Dog" (No, not an Aerosmith-cover), and I think the singer is pretty good, and it's good to hear "Fast" Eddie Clarke's guitar-sound again, but when I heard the album a second time, it didn't sound as good as the first time. I guess it's one of those albums, you (or is it just I?) get tired off very fast. But there ARE some good tracks on the album, and I DO like the very classical Rock-sound. You pretty much got the best tracks from the album, Jon.

By the way, I don't want to give thumbs up or down anymore. From now on, I'll give points. You know: 0 = Utter Crap, 1 = Bad, 2 = Not very good, 3 = Kind of okay, 4 = Good, 5 = Very Good Indeed, 6 = Masterpiece.

ACCEPT - 3 out of 6

I REALLY like the sound of "Accept-guitars"!!! Some of the best sounding guitars in HM. The vocals are another matter. Especially the "russian army"-sounding background-vocals. I know the album is called "Stalingrad", but it's certainly not the first time, those kind of background vocals have appeared on an Accept-album. Now that is NOT my cup of tea!! The new singer sounds TOO much like a singer from an Accept-coverband, and that's not good in my book either, but in a way, he is kind of a better singer than Udo, because let's face it, Udo WAS irritating to listen to, at times, well imo anyway. The lyrics sucks!! "Hell-fire", give me a f...... break!!! The songs are not as good, as those on the new Fastway-album. It's not bad, but I would never purchase this. I've "moved on" musically.

Did you hear JBJ in one of the Fastway songs?

No, but in the last track, that you posted, I think he sounds a bit like Myles Kennedy.

FASTWAY ... Two Thumbs up

Takes me back to the days of cruisin with my buddies and cranking their debut, I do hear differences as its doesnt coudn as aggressive as their debut, but the geetar is the focal point for me here and I like it!  I'm in purchaseville on this one!

ACCEPT ...

Metal Heart is the standard bearer for Accept music for me, and I hear some of that in this!  So off to great start and it keeps going!  Good thing I was already in Purchaseville, no need to leave just yet!

I am going to slightly disagree with a few of the comments (I am a fan of both bands) The Fastway album is a bit of a disappointment in my opinion. I always thought they were vastly underrated. The new album has its moments but overall is kind of "Meh."

The new Accept album, on the otherhand, is spot on. Tornillo has really reunited that band. "Blood of the Nations" was a masterpiece and this one is just as good or almost as good.

Fastway: Two and half stars out of six

Accept: Five out of Six
