Tygers Of Pan Tang--Ambush (October 2012)

The latest offering from Tygers Of Pan Tang, their first since 2008's incredible "Animal Instinct". If you're a fan of NWOBHM and awesome riffs and melodies, you'll love this. Shame their stuff from the 80's is expensive as hell (some of them featuring John Sykes), but maybe one day they'll be available at a reasonable price.

1. One Of A Kind
2. She
3. Play To Win
4. Hey Suzie!
5. Speed

Outlaws--It's About Pride (September 2012)

Well, we've got new albums from ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd this year, so why not something new from The Outlaws? Their first album in 18 years, it's what you would expect from them, but not old hat sort of stuff. If you like southern rock, you'll like this!

6. Hidin' Out In Tenessee
7. Born To Be Bad
8. Nothin' Main About Main Street
9. Trail Of Tears
10. So Long

TYGERS OF PAN TANG ...  2 thumbs up!

Loved the opener, second song ... eh, not as much, but the rest are solid!  Hey Suzie has a really great funky bass line that rocks all that way through it!  If the rest of tis album is like tracks 1, 3, 4, and 5, then this is on my radar.  Such a cool 80's vibe, if it weren't for my wife getting ready for church this morning I'd have cranked this up, but will do that later because I have a feeling this will sound even better that way!

THE OUTLAWS ... Two thumbs liking two tracks and that's it

The preview track from a few weeks back really had me thinking this was a modern country music record and not southern rock or country rock.  The opening track confirms that, way too country for me!  Second track is slightly better, but that geetar sound and riff sure is reminiscent of Money For Nothing and still has a country song feel to the chorus.  Next track please...  uh...  more country.  Trail of Tears and So Long are exactly what I was hoping for, but alas, I think this more country than what I would like and that this really isn't the "Ghost Riders" Outlaws I was hoping to hear.  They are clearly targeting a new audience, and I'm not in the demographic.

Outlaws (2 Thumbs Way Up)
I have this one and I am loving it. There are certain songs that do have a more country feel to them than a rock feel, but the guitars are stamped so heavily on this that it will never see the light of day on country radio anymore than rock radio. It's About Pride is a terrific southern rock name-checking ballad and Last Ghost Town could actually be a country hit. So Long may be my favorite song of the year. Great album.

Tigers Of Wango Dango (Thumbs Sideways)

This is the first time I have ever heard this band. I have heard of them. It's not bad by any means, but it is not percolating anything within me.

TYGERS OF PAN TANG - 2.5 out of 6 Raven-fans

Haha, It's 30 years since I bought my last TOPT-album, and it wasn't very good, can't remember the title, the one with the tiger in a cage. In '81, I bought the album with the King Kong-tiger on the album-sleeve. That was okay, but I never was a fan. The first track...yeah, well..bores me. It's not 1981 anymore. How many of the originals are on this album? Is it the same singer? No John Sykes, I'm guessing? The start to the second track is the same '81-sound once again. It's true, that it is NWOBHM-sound, but how old are these guys now? 55? Grow up, for Christ Sake!! But don't get me wrong, it's not B-A-D, it's just like something I heard many many years ago, and if I want to hear it again, I'll find my old records. It's weird listening to this, knowing that it is a new record. Third track makes me think, what a weak singer this is!! The fourth track, and I'm about to give up and do my home-work instead..oh, I forgot, it's not '81. The singer starts to annoy me. Fifth track is not bad, but I rest my case.

OUTLAWS - 2 out of 6 cheese-Burgers

I've heard of these dudes, but I can't remember anything, they've done. VERY american sounding. Dare I say too american? First track sounds almost like country to me. I picture cowgirls- and boys dancing their stupid dance. Sorry, if some of you like that kind of dance. I really don't, and believe me, they are dancing this dance in Denmark as well, somewhere right now. But I do kind of like the track when the guitarsolo's starts. Good speed and good ending to the song. Much better than Tygers. Second track is not as good. Heard this kind of song too many times. " Born to be bad" give me a break!! Much worse than Tygers. Track three......... Sounds just like Tom Petty. Nice guitar in track four, but otherwise naaah! Last track starts promising, but naaaaah!! Okay guitar-solo again, though. Very nice, indeed.

Only Rob Weir is from the original Tygers lineup. As for "The Cage"....well, I kinda like it. It's a departure from their first 3, but it's still not bad. Maybe, if I'm asked nicely, I can post it.
