Classic Rock Bottom

This week I'm going to post 6 video's: 4 new, and starting this week, I'm going to post 2 classic video's, one of them with a band or a song or perhaps a video, that I really love, while the other classic will be just some '80's song, more a less cheesy, but here we go:

Note: There ARE scenes and language that are NOT for kids eyes and ears, so be carefull.

1. Avenged Sevenfold - "Nightmare".

Avenged Sevenfold is an american rockband from California, and they have released 5 studio-albums so far. "Nightmare" comes from their 2010-album....."Nightmare".

2. Scars on Broadway - "They say".

Scars on Broadway is also an american band, founded by System of a Down-members, Daran Malakian and John Dolmayan. "They say" is from their debut-album from 2008, so it's KIND of new.

3. Young Guns - "Weight of the world".

Young Guns is an english alternative rock band, and this song/video is from their debut-album "All our Kings are dead", that was released on july 12, 2010.

4. Escape the Fate - "Issues".

An american "post-hardcore"-band from Las Vegas. This song/video is from their third album, that will be released 11/2/10.

5. RUSH - Distant Early Warning.

I love this band, this song, and it's a pretty good video too. It's from Rush's 1984-album "Grace under pressure", one of my favorite Rush-albums. That album also contains "Red Sector A", an absolute favorite of mine.

6. Mammoth - "Fat Man".

Mammoth was a late '80s band that included former Gillan bass-player, John McCoy. The 4 members weighed together around 540 kg. What's the cheese-factor on this video?

Avenged Sevenfold... 1 star
.5 star for the song, I am ignoring the intro to the song because it didnt fit well, but the rest made me forget that part. But didnt think the f-word was needed, sometimes it works and sometimes its just gratuitous. This was the latter. And lastly .5 for the video, it was just ok.

Scars on Broadway... 0 stars
Cant get into the singer, and didnt think the f-word was needed, sometimes it works and sometimes its just gratuitous. This was the latter. Hey didnt I just say that? The tune was just okay. I'll go with nothing for the song, and .25 on the video, it wasnt groundbreaking or interesting really. OK, changed my mind. Going with zero.

Young Guns... 1.75 stars
ooohh... Like the deep rich sound. They sound very promising, woudl like to hear more. 1 star on the song. I will go with .75 on the video, nothing to write home about, but I really liked the railroad/train theme. My family heritage is closely tied to the railroads western movement and therefore I have several family members who have and still work for the Union Pacific railroad. Me? I work for a bank because I prefer life on the edge... you know, a rebel...

Escape the Fate... 1 star
Quick question whats "post hardcore"? I wasnt aware hardcore was overwith. The song is ok, nothing to differentiate them from everyone else. .5 stars. Liked the video though here again, nothing to differentiate them from everyone else. .5 stars

Rush... 4 stars
Yup its definitely Grace Under Pressure. I'll try not to be biased as this is my favorite band! Oh who am I kidding 5 stars!! but subtracting one for Alex's skinny tie.

Mammoth... -2 stars, Cheese factor 7
uh.... uh.... ahem... uh.... uh.... I'm speechless and I cant believe I watched the whole thing! The singer dudes robe is classic at how bad it is. He looks like he just rolled out of bed and could the guitar player move a little? Stupid song, stupid video. -2 stars! Cheese alerts: at least a 12 bass drums; bad attempt at Larry Moe and Curly jokes in a gym; bald guys with pony tails.
John McCoy is part of GMT now and they rock!
Avenged Sevenfold (0.5 stars)

Half a star for the song. It's an okay song. But I'm very disappointed in this album. Their previous effort was much better. I'll probably feature it on an upcoming NMC so you can decide for yourself.

Scars On Broadway (1.5 stars)

I like the song. It's not awesome, but it's very decent. So 0.75 stars for the song and the same for the video. Again, it's not a great video, but I do like the filmed footage and the scenes of devastation.

Young Guns (1 star)

I agree with Scott that this band has some potential. The song is pretty good, so I'll give it 0.75 stars. The video is not great but not bad. I can't give it more than 0.25 stars because of the skinny jeans/skateboarder look (nothing against skateboarders at all, I just don't like that look). I dislike skinny jeans so much that it's barely a sliver of a notch above the "pants below the ass" look.

Escape The Fate (0.75 stars)

Half star for the decent song. I'm not crazy about the video, but I'm giving a quarter star simply because of the twig breaking at the end.

Rush (1.75 stars)

I must say, that is a killer song. I've heard it before, but this is the first time I've really listened to it. I'm not the biggest Rush fan around here, but that song gets a full star. Any video featuring Neil Peart (is it Neil or Neal?) kicking ass on the drums automatically starts off with a full star in my book. However, two things made me deduct a quarter star. The boy riding on the rocket was slightly cheesy. But the worst thing about this video is undoubtedly Geddy Lee's ugly-ass bass guitar. That thing is sick, bad sick. But still, very cool overall.

Mammoth (0 stars)

When the "eff" did Rob Halford gain 200 pounds and play bass for Mammoth? Speaking of the bass player, didn't he suddenly play the guitar solo? Anyway, that song's not good. As far as the video, I really don't think it was all that cheesy. It was very sucky, but not that cheesy. Suck factor was 10.

Very enjoyable picks Niels, or Neils, or Niles...
Suck-factor? Now, there's an idea!!

And "Post-Hardcore" yeah, I was thinking the same thing, but it's not my word. It's from Wikipedia.

Okay, my votes:

Avenged Sevenfold (1,25 star)

0,5 for both song and video. In fact, I'll give it 0,75 for the video, because I kind of liked it.

Scars on Broadway (1,25 star)

Here it's the other way around: 0,75 for the song, and 0,5 for the video.

Young Guns (1 star)

0,75 for the song, and 0,25 for a rather booring video.

Escape The Fate (0,5 stars)

0,25 for both the song and video. Did'nt really say anything to me.

RUSH (2, 3 or 4 stars)

As I said: It's one of my favorite Rush-numbers. For a video from 1984, It's rather good.

Mammoth (0 stars with a cheese factor 4)

I agree, it ain't that cheesy, but that was'nt why I picked it. I bought this album in '88, I think, and I kinda liked it then, but the song is booring now. It's a (kind of) funny video. Fat people ha ha....or not?

I'm glad, you enjoyed the picks, Geoff.
hahahaha... Love the intentional misspelling of the name at the end.
That's quite funny my friend, I'm laughing.
