Classic Rock Bottom

It's time for another round of VOTW, and that means 4 new and 2 classic video's. The first one of the new one's, you may have heard in NMC a couple of weeks back, but have a look and a listen, and rate the video's if you like. I'm going to rate them a little later on. Hope you'll enjoy them:

Oh, and remember, there's scenes and language, not suitable for childrens eyes and ears.

1. MEGADETH - THE RIGHT TO GO INSANE

The second single (released on my birthday 9th april 2010) from their 12th album "Endgame", released in september 2009.

2. KAMELOT - THE GREAT PANDEMONIUM

An american "Power-Metal" band from Florida, formed in 1991. They have released 9 studio-albums, and this is from their new album, "Poetry for the poisoned", released in september 2010.

3. MURDERDOLLS - MY DARK PLACE ALONE

Murderdolls is an american "Horror Punk Supergroup", yeah that's what WikiPedia calls them. They have released two albums this far. This is from their latest album from 2010, "Woman and children last".(Nice title, by the way).

4. TRAPT - SOUND OFF

Yet another american band, this time from California. Trapt was formed in 1997, and have released 4 studio-albums. This is from the 2010-album, "No Apologies", released a month ago.

5. GARY MOORE - OVER THE HILLS AND FAR AWAY

From before he discovered the blues. This is from the 1987-album, "Wild Frontier", one of two good albums, he made in the 80', the other one being the 1985-album, "Run for cover".

6. MANOWAR - GLOVES OF METAL

From Manowar's second album from 1983, "Into the glory ride". I remember reading about this band in Kerrang! around that time, and thinking "No way, am I going to buy a record with these dudes", yeah well, I thought it in danish, but the meaning was the same. Are they "worse" than Spinal Tap? What's the cheese-factor on this one?

Nice! "Over The Hills...." is a fantastic song!
OK, so I'm home working late, my wife is off to California to visit family, so I can indulge on this....

Megadeth... 1 point
I'm liking this band a lot after ignoring them for years. I suspect the we will hear the usual, "I don't like Dave's voice" when the other 2 chime in :-) ... So let me start.. I don't like Daves voice on this one too much, but he fits the music he writes. The song is just OK, definitely not the best track on Endgame, but not bad. The video is ok, would have been better if it took more than a bolt cutter to open the lid of a tank! Opportunity for an explosion missed.

Kamelot.... 1point
Wow, very dark images and lyrics, at least the ones I could catch. The Cookie Monster vocals don't work for me in any capacity. The video is well produced and put together professionally. Special effects are cool, so give them credit for that. The music is good as well. 1 point, would have been higher without the cookie monster vocals.

Murderdolls... 0 points
Not sure how I feel about this, I don't like the imagery. Personal preference I guess, the occult and its images and messages don't sit well with me. Don't get me wrong, the music is the most important thing, but this is too blatant, feels too much like this band is about image and shock value and not as much about the music. 0 points

Trapt... 0 points
Another band performing on an empty warehouse/office building, been there seen that. Cant feel the music much, its not coming through, sounds like everyone else that's trying to break in nowadays. 0 points

Gary Moore... -.5 points with a cheese factor of 4
Heard a lot about him, just not his music. I think if your gonna write a song titled "Over the Hills and Far Away" it better be way better than this because the first thing I think about is Led Zeppelin. Also heavy metal violin isn't working. Pretty cheesy set too. But not overly cheesy...

Manowar... -.5 points with a cheese factor of 8
Another band I never listened to in the 80's. The opening riff doesn't sound promising, and nope its not getting any better. Has PETA seen this video? hahahahaha. They jump out in these furry whatever they are outfits and then sing about wearing leather? High cheese factor here, lifted to new heights by a hilarious fight scene on the beach, were they laughing? Yes I think they were. Hilarious discovery Niels!

Yet another great post in a series of great posts....
Megadeth (1.75 points)

I like that song better than the ones featured on the recent NMC. I think Mustaine sounds good on this. I'll give 1 full point for the song and 0.75 points for the video. I like the way they wove the video into the true life events, making it seem like Dave was driving that tank. It would have gotten a full point except then Dave had to act. That detracted from it somewhat. Overall, nice choice.

Kamelot (1 point)

I'll give the video and the song 0.5 points each. They are slightly above average from what I could tell. I couldn't watch it all because it kept buffering, and that is aggravating as *&%$!

Murderdolls (2 points)

For some reason, I like this. I think the song is killer and the video, aside from the imagery, is full of energy (as far as the band goes). They look sick, but in this case I don't really care.

Trapt (0.5 points)

This band is kind of like Taproot (from last week) to me. They piss me off. Their first album was pretty good and I thought they had tons of potential, but I've heard nothing since then that interests me in the least. Now, this song isn't bad, so I'm giving a half a point, but the video is boring. I don't care if I ever see it again, so no points.

Gary Moore (2 points/Cheese Factor 5)

Wow! I've never heard that song before. It is fantastic. I love the Celtic sound of the drums and fiddles or whatever that is. Phenomenal. I have only his greatest hits, but I bought it for one song (Still Got The Blues) only, so I'll have to see if this is on there. I hope so. I like the video as well. I love the dark background, gray and blue, castle walls, barren wasteland, all of that stuff. I'm giving it a CF of 5 for one reason and one reason only...Gary Moore. You know who John C. Reilly is? He was Ricky Bobby's sidekick in Talledega Nights. Anyway, that's who I think of. A comedian playing a rock star with a ridiculous wig. Worse than Paul Stanley's current wig. Otherwise, thanks for introducing me to this one Niels.

Manowar (0 points/Cheese factor 10)

Song...sucks! Video...sucks! Cheese Factor 10 'cause this effing sucks!

This was cool Niels. As a reminder, just because I berate a video (Manowar), don't think I'm not entertained. It's a blast to make fun of crappy stuff sometimes. But you were all ace's on that Gary Moore video.

PS. I just checked and my Gary Moore CD does not have this song on it. Does anybody have the studio CD with this on it from 1987?
Yes.

But what greatest hits do you have? It's on the "Out In The Fields" compilation, you must have "Ballads & Blues"?
I have The Best Of The Blues - 2 Disc Set
That explains it!
Ups, I made a little mistake, when I wrote, that the Megadeth-track had been in NMC!!

Megadeth (1,5 Points)

It's a good song (1 point) and the video is okay (0,5), but is'nt Mustaine beginning to look his age?!

Kamelot (1,5 Points)

The only thing, that keeps me from giving this 2 points, is the "growling". Fantastic video and a very good song. (song 0,5/video 1)

Murderdolls (1 point)

Well, it's okay. I'm not a fan of either the song or video, but it's okay. (0,5/0,5)

Trapt (1 point)

About the same. It's okay, I like it, but it's not THAT great. (0,5/0,5)

Gary Moore (2 points - cheesefactor, hmmmm...3)

This must be my favorite Gary Moore-track. I definetly agree with RJhog, about the "Celtic-sound". Awesome song!! And not a bad video. It gets 1 point alone, for featuring good old Bob Daisly on Bass-guitar!!!

Manowar - (-0,5 points cheesefactor 9,5)

I can't really give this minus 2 points, because in a way it's a fun video (0 points) but the song is bad (-0,5 points). How can anyone be a fan of these guys??
ok, what am I missing on this Gary Moore track? I went back and listened again thinking I must not be getting it, and lo' and behold, that's exactly it, I'm not getting that one...

Im alone on this one, and thats ok..., cause I'm smart enough, and people like me...
Well...not really. But keep thinking it.
