Classic Rock Bottom

It's time again for some fresh, and NOT so fresh video's. I'll continue with 4 new video's and 2 "old", where one of the old ones, I really like (the song or/and the video) and one old one with a potential cheesefactor. I'll hope you'll give your ratings, I know I will, but let's start:

1. JOE SATRIANI - LIGHT YEARS AWAY

The new video from the american multi-instrumentalist from his 2010-album "Black Swans And Wormhole Wizards".

2. DISTURBED - THE ANIMAL

Have I shown a Disturbed-video before? Can't remember! Brand new video from their 2010-album, "Asylum". Has that album been in NMC? Can't remember!

3. CORRODED - PIECE BY PIECE

This is a sweedish "Heavy Post-Grunge Metal-band", with a song from their second album "Exit to transfer". The albums is only released in Scandinavia (I haven't got it!!) but a wider european and US release is expected in early 2011, so now you know.

4. KOPEK - COCAINE CHEST PAINS

Kopek are an irish rock band from Dublin. This is from their 2010-album "White Collar Lies", and obviously from the movie SAW34 or something like that.

5. MARILYN MANSON - THE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE

I know, you have probably seen this a thousand times, but I like this video. And at some point, I liked some of Marilyn Manson's music.

6. TREAT - READY FOR THE TAKING

ANOTHER sweedish band, Treat, this band had some success in the 80's. This song is from 1989, a good year for some cheesy video, but how about this one?

Niels, to answer your question, Disturbed's new CD has not been in NMC, but your timing is impeccable, as usual, because I already have my next NMC ready to go and that's one of the 3 albums featured (unless of course you beat me to it this weekend). It'll probably be tomorrow night before I can watch these, but I'll report back with my ratings as soon as I do.
Joe Satriani (1 point)

I don't normally like fully instrumental CD's, so I wouldn't buy this, but the riff and song are pretty cool. So is the video, so I'll give 0.5 points to each for a total of 1 point.

Disturbed (1.25 points)

Like I said above, I have this and it will be on my next NMC. Luckily, this is not one of the 5 songs I chose. I think the song is better outside of the context of the album, because Dramen's voice can get a little annoying. The song is a little better than I can remember it being, so I'll give 0.75 points, with 0.5 points going to the video. It's above average but not great.

Corroded (1.5 points)

This is a killer song. I hope somebody buys it over in Europe and posts it in NMC. I really like the vocals. I'm not saying he has the greatest voice ever, but it works here and he really is singing to his ability. So 1 full point for the song and 0.5 points for the video, again better than average but not great.

Kopek (1 point)

I'll give the video and the song 0.5 points each for a total of 1 point. I like the guitar tone in the song, but the song itself is just okay. I think I would have given more points to the video had it shown more movie clips that weren't so choppy and more of the chick at the end.

Marilyn Manson (-2 points)

I see absolutely nothing socially redeming about the song or the video. I'm not a fan of Manson.

Treat (-1 point / Cheese Factor 10)

This video reeks of Wisconsin. And I get a strong "I wanna be like Whitesnake" vibe. I could give it a CF of 10 just on the fact that the lyrics say "Get down/Do it". Awful. But it's not as bad as Marilyn Manson, so only -0.5 points each for the video and song.

Very entertaining post Niels.
Joe Satriani... no rating
Video has been removed due to copyright violation. Will have to go find this one, wanted to hear it...

Disturbed... 1 point
Interesting, the band name fits the video that's for sure. I find the song to be just ok, certainly listenable, but not gonna purchase. I even kinda liked the video.

Corroded... .75 points
Yet another performance video in some abandoned room/warehouse. ho hum. Song is alright though not memorable enough to differentiated them from everyone else playing in this genre nowadays. 0 points for the uninspired video, but .75 for the song

Kopek... 1 points
I probably should start deducting points for performance videos show in open fields and abandoned warehouses. Yup, talked myself into it. -.5 points at this point its cliche. Song was just alright though I thought the singer was pretty good, and there is potential here, so I'm gonna give them 1 point for the song. Would be interested in hearing something from them in the future.

Marilyn Manson... unrated
I don't like his act or music.

Treat... -.5 points with a cheese factor of 6
I feel like a broken record on this abandoned warehouse performance thing. -.5 points instantly. Cheese points start flying around the 1:30 mark, when the guitarist starts pointing the guitar at the camera and then the drummer starts banging his head repeatedly. Bad cheesy chorus, was this suppose to be some sort of anthem? Ready? Ready? ... ummm Really? Really?

Nice post as usual Niels! Keep 'em coming
I have Disturbed's album Asylum but haven't listened to it yet.

The song is kind of eh, and the video left me cold.
The Satriani-video should be runing again now!!
Joe Satriani... easily 2 points
Love the bass line! I also love the instrumentals, they have a place for sure. Steve Vai, Eric Johnson and Satriani all write grade A pieces. I can tell the video was using an Adobe After Effects filter because my son used the same filter for his Senior project last year! hahaha... Still cool though. 1 point for the video and 1 point for the song..

Thanks for fixing the video!
Joe Satriani (1 point)

I'm not that much for instrumental numbers/records, but this is okay. The video is okay too (2x0,5)

Disturbed (0 point)

This don't do anything for me. It aint bad, either the song or video, it's just not that good, i think.

Corroded (1,25 points)

I like the song, it's rather good, so 1 point. The video is a bit booring, eccept for the eksplotion in the very end (0,25). If you mean me here in europe, RJhog, don't hold your breath. I'm not planning buing this one, sorry.

Kopek (1 point)

An okay song, and I like (mostly) video's where they show clips from the movies, if the song has somthing to do with a movie, but it did'nt really make me want to see the damn movie (2x 0,5)

Marily Manson (2 points)

I guess, I'm all alone on this one, eh? I do NOT like most of MM's music, but I like this one, and that video is a classic! MM did make one good album, and I MIGHT "post" it in IMHO some day, then it would be "The best Marilyn Manson-album IMHO", but will anybody listen???

Treat (-1 points, cheesefactor 7,5)

I saw this band open for Gary Moore, that was supporting Queen in Stockholm in 1986. They stank!!!
"Mechanical Animals" from Marilyn Manson by any chance?
You got it!!!
I have to get cuagh up with the videos...

Joe Satriani--1 pt (we still using Niels' rating system?)
I was bopping my head to this, nice song. Vid is cool, like the color-scheme

Disturbed--Unrated
Wouldn't play, some stuff about copyright infringement

Corroded--.75 pt
Song not bad, video kinda interesting especially when the lady licked the helmet (tee hee). Also thought that was The Punisher logo on the drums, figured out it was just a mushroom with eyes.

Kopek--.85 pt
Really like this band, no-frills rock. Video was bsically a movie tie-n and does the job. Deducting some points since the singer reminds me of that awful singer from the awful Counting Crows.

Marilyn Manson--.75 pt
Not a fan of MM (but he/they do have one REALLY good glam rock album I highly recommend) but the song hasnever bugged me and the video is freaky enough to hold my interest.

Treat--0 pt, CF 10
Weird 'cause I got the Whitesnake vibe too when the songer was on top ofthe vehicle. Thought he was gonna slide down real sexy like. The drummer bugged me, don't ko if he had really short arms or what, but check out around the 4:30 mark and explain what's going on. Can he not extend his arms? And the ending was kinda sad...the cops pullup, have no clue who these guys are and have to wipe dirt off the side of the truck to reveal "Treat"? Man, that didn't bode well for this bands future. And then, after all that hoopla, they basically just shrug it off? What was the point? And nobody mentioned the tossing off the guitar pick in the air, would have been cool if it came down and got embedded in someone's eye. Maye that's why the cops were called?

Nice selection Niels!
