"First It Giveth" is a song by Queens of the Stone Age from their album Songs for the Deaf. It was released as a single on August 18, 2003, peaking at number 33 on the UK Singles Chart. When asked in an interview if it is easier to make music on drugs, Josh Homme said "Well I think we have a song that about this subject called First they Giveth, then They Taketh away, and I think at first you can draw inspiration and then eventually, it negates any inspiration.""The Lord Gave, and the Lord Hath Taken Away" is a bible quotation found in the book of Job. Welcome back from European Vacation! I know very little of this guys work outside of Grohls contributions to QOTSA, which should be a shock to you...

KYUSS - DEMON CLEANER ... So Bjork wauss in thiuss band? I dont see or hear anything that's special or interussting in this video, and I can't transport myself back to 1994 to see if this would've piqued any interusst either, you see in '94 I hated the new music that was coming out, and I rebelled against it for a good while, at least until 98-99 when my friend introduced STP to me, anyway that's a different story, back to this Homey guy. First track is a pass...

QUEENS OF THE STONES AGE - THE LOST ART OF KEEPING A SECRET ... I assume this is Pre-Grohl. From a production standpoint it sounds exactly like that Kyuss track. So I feel like this is a repeat except the videos in color and features zits and bugs in ears.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE - FIRST IT GIVETH ... It woudl seem to me that missing out QOTSA then and now wasn't such a bad thing. I hear no growth in the music from the first video to this one. And while I liked the one song that featured Grohl, it appears that at least he took them in a different direction from this.

THEM CROOKED VULTURES - DEAD END FRIENDS ... Better! JPJ is the man! The music is more interesting, though the riffs and vocals are fairly average, the rhythm section drives this one.

EAGLES OF DEATH METAL - COMPLEXITY ... I first heard of this band because of their album cover, and then the Paris shooting put them directly into everyone living rooms, but none of this involved the music, which has no resemblance to the Eagles or Death Metal my the way so I don't get the band name and I don't get the music either.

IGGY POP & JOSH HOMME - TONIGHT ... Pass. In fact Iggy Pop s a big pass for me as well...

Interesting to hear something new, and just like the commercial says, the more you know! And now I know.

Thank you, my friend

I can't say, that I dissagree THAT much, since I never really listend to Kyuss myself, and imo QOTSA only really made one REALLY good album, EODM is not my cup of tea, Paris or no Paris and Iggy Pop.......nah, but he might just pop up in his own VOTW along the way, who knows. I know.

Can't say I'm a particular fan of Homme.  He's okay.  I guess.  The first song is certainly stoner rock.  I have heard of Kyuss, but this is the first time I've ever heard them.  Stoner rock, that old rock sound, needs a better riff than this to be enjoyable.  I do like the second track.  Vocally, it reminds me of the Foo Fighters, a band I really dig.  Not musically though.  So that's Lanegan singing?  I would have thought it was Homme.  I do like the bass work on this track.

First It Giveth is a song about drugs.  I just don't understand the romance with the drug culture.  This song is somewhat annoying.  Them Crooked Vultures is a venture I bought into quickly, mostly because of Grohl and JPJ, but it didn't stick at all for me.  I'm surprised that we haven't seen a follow-up however, especially considering how productive these guys have been.  I am actually enjoying this song, probably just from the video performance.  Grohl seems to really enjoy the chance at playing the drums.  And watching JPJ work that bass is so cool.

EODM is one that I almost bought.  But it was streaming for free and it just didn't seem like something I would listen to very often.  But I dig this song.  It's quite fun and they sound good singing together.  Plus, dude has a killer mustache. And finally, Iggy Pop.  Would you believe that I bought this album?  I was in the mood for something different, so I took a chance.  Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.  This was a loss for me.  I just tried to get through it again yesterday and couldn't do it.

Hope you enjoyed your vacation, or holiday, whatever it's called across the pond.  Welcome back!

I did, even though it went too fast. Thank you, my friend.
