Still weighing my options of work I can do when I'm back in civilization and as repulsive as the idea is to me I could be a butcher. Well, sort of. Not a very good one, but they don't have to know that. Oh, don't give me the stink eye. Everybody lies on their resume. It's an expectation practically. Something your new boss should only find out... later.

You see, my Father wasn't much of a sportsman or a hunter, but when it came to slaughtering pigs, he could compete with the best of them. No, he wasn't a natural-born pig killer, no, Father, like everyone else, had to learn the art of butchering from a black-belt boner. An old fart with a huge curly mustache. Why? So he can sustain his weekend parties. Yep, my parents were party freaks! It's funny how Dad was one of the biggest anti-communist people on the planet, yet when it came to National holidays (and let's face it, back home, every single one of those was in celebration of some ridiculous Communist achievement), he would use the event as an excuse to get his friends together where food and drink would flow in abundance.

As a kid, I was spared of the gory details but I had to suffer in front of a cauldron feeding the fire to keep the intestines boiling. Later came the gory parts... and feeding the fire all the same. I had no choice in the matter. Unless I was ready to give up food altogether. Call me crazy, but I liked to eat.

When I left home, I thought this barbaric practice was behind me. However, not long after my journey across the world started fate would have me look for something to do under the table. Yeah, footsie would have been nice but who was gonna pay me for that? Anywhoo, I found a guy who bought an abandoned soap factory, in order to convert it into a slaughterhouse. First, he needed an electrician to upgrade the wiring, then a hand with construction, and finally help with butchering the livestock. I stuck around for the first two contracts just fine, but when it came to killing innocent, tasty little animals I only lasted so long. As bad as gutting was, the worst came when I was sent to load the already couple of days fermented entrails into a trailer and dump 'em at the landfill, Which I did, but as a result, I could not keep food down for a whole week. When I went back to my boss I told him: "F*ck this! From now on I want to work in the freezer... or... in the smoke chamber! Your choice." He laughed at me and said: "That's my job!"

And that's how my short stint as a skinner abruptly ended for good. Now, beggars can't be choosers, can they? Perhaps I should find a job in the field, referencing my previous experiences, of course, but firmly demanding a position in the freezer. It would be temporary anyway. Only till I find something better. I figure working in the freezer is not only safe but also gives me the opportunity to gain skills I could further implement elsewhere, like for example boxing. Pounding on the half-hogs hanging around the cold room could lead me to a strong-man position in a Circus.
Or, something equally exciting.

I've got the albums from Ozzy Osbourne, .38 Special, Savatage and Ratt.

How else can I earn living when I get back from this deserted island?

I need something where people would ask me "Are you working hard?" and I can reply with "Who me? I'm hardly working", and get away with it too. Oh, that reminds me, speaking of getting away with it, it's a well-documented fact that I'm not much of a co-worker material, so if there are going to be those annoying co-whatchamacallit again on this job site, I want to be able to do things to them... bad "things"... and not to be held responsible for what happens. Something I can later claim: "Sorry judge, not my fault he wasn't paying attention". And it has to be something where the machine will do the "heavy" lifting while I sit on my butt and look pretty all day. Where I can just show up straight from an all-night soiree, without having to lift a finger or break a sweat to make things look dandy all the while I'll adjust the slow pace of this work throughout the shift with my last night's hangover and the surrounding feng shui.

There's got to be something like that out there, right?

Does thinking about work counts as working?
It does when you work in your dreams and so does when you are on a deserted island of your choice enjoying the greatest music ever released and you have to think about business opportunities, right? But who's paying for that kind of distraction? I'm yet to figure out that part. I'll let you know when I do. And since I'm not making money here I'll have to apply for welfare when I get back, then they'll ask me if I was looking for work.
You're my witness, I did.
Oh, shut up!
Thinking, looking, potato, french fries, what's the difference?
Either way, nothing gets done.

So here is the thing.
A long time ago I needed money (boy when I say it out loud, I realize nothing has changed), and while my godfather, a painter by profession, was visiting us once I dropped him an inconspicuous hint, on which he caught on immediately and offered me a job on the side. The better option would have been to just give me the money, but I learned to appreciate his scrooges together with the skills he taught me. There is some truth in the saying: teach the man fishing rather than feed him fish. Over the years, I used my skills not only for my own benefit but also did some painting for others. Pros - If all you got to paint is at your eye level it's so much fun you almost feel guilty charging your clients... Almost. But... yeah there is a butt... But, if you have to paint ceilings, you're f*cked! A huge cons if you ask me, especially if it is a tall and spacious building, and let's face it, who'd call you to paint their flat if it wasn't? I wish I could ladder-walk like my godfather, but that skill he did not pass on to me. So, I need help, which creates another problem; I have to pay someone. If I hire a professional, there won't be much left for me. And why bother to hire a student when I'll end up doing the "hard" parts anyway?
No, I need someone to push the ladder around the room while I paint the ceiling.
And he must be working for peanuts.
