Alter Bridge are coming up on the Oct. 8 release of ‘Fortress,’ and they’re stoking the fires of fan excitement with their new video for ‘Addicted to Pain.’ The video, which just premiered at Loudwire, is a hybrid of performance footage, featuring the band members laying a hurting on their instruments, spliced with vintage clips of bad things happening to human beings and people doing dangerous things that could spell disaster.
While the band plays in a warehouse, vintage images of women in bathing suits, horses diving from a board with a rider on their backs, colliding trains, cars driving through rings of fire, a man in a straight jacket and another hanging out a plane by his ankles are splashed across the screen. It’s a seamless mix of classic (and frightening) images with modern hard rock.
The band and the clips exist independently of one another, but the message is received since the images line up with the lyrics. Humans and our psyches are addicted to pain whether we like or not and we cannot eradicate pain from human existence.
It can be the thrill of doing things that may cause pain, like many of the aforementioned activities can and will do. We can’t help ourselves and run headlong into the adrenaline rush of dangerously thrilling activities. At other times, the pain is caused by others in either nefarious or accidental ways. But as the First Noble Truth indicates — life is pain.
Beyond that, the song slays. It’s got a very classic metal sound.
Although I'm looking forward to it, I can't imagine it being any better than ABIII. That was a great album. Just listened to it the other day.
....and Denmark, but I won't be seeing them this time around. I have tickets for Dylan and Sabbath this fall, and for now, that's more than enough. Looking forward to the album, though. Can it be any better than ABIII? If so, it will be album of the year.
Earlier this year, Alter Bridge announced that they had begun work on their fourth studio album, and now the band is offering up all the juicy details surrounding their upcoming release. The 13-song disc, titled ‘Fortress,’ will make its debut on Oct. 8.
Working once again with producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette, new songs like ‘Bleed It Dry’ and ‘Farther From the Sun’ are being described as some of the heaviest material ever recorded by Alter Bridge. It’s not all heavy though, as tunes like ‘All Ends Well’ and the title track ‘Fortress’ put the band’s softer side on full display. All in all, the songs seem to encompass everything that Alter Bridge have built their career on — melodic vocals courtesy of Myles Kennedy, stellar guitar work at the hands of Mark Tremonti and the talented rhythm section of Brian Marshall on bass and Scott Phillips on drums rounding out the quartet.
Tremonti opens up about the recording process, saying, “When we started pre-production on this album, we pushed ourselves harder and further than we ever have previously in order to make the most out of every individual arrangement.” He continues, “We wanted this album to be our most unpredictable and exciting one yet. From the early feedback we have received, it looks like we have achieved what we set out to do.”
Shortly after ‘Fortress’ is released, Alter Bridge will set out on a European tour that will take them through countries like France, Germany, Sweden and Italy – just to name a few. (Check out all of the tour stops below.) Fans in the States may have to wait a little longer to see Alter Bridge, as the band currently only has one U.S. tour date booked in 2013 — an Oct. 4 show at the House of Blues in Orlando, Fla.
That surprises me...releasing a live CD/DVD after just having done one in 2009. As much as I love Alter Bridge, can't see myself buying this, as many of the tracks are on the "Live From Amsterdam" package I have.
Definitely looking forward to a Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti solo album, as well as another Slash album, and another Creed album.
No new studio album from AB in 2012, but it looks like everybody will be busy. This is from "Rock News":
Alter Bridge are planning a March release for their new live CD/DVD which was flimed at the Wembley Arena in London, England. Click here for set list.
The band will take a break in 2012 while front-man Myles Kennedy works on a solo album and the next Slash record. The remaining members will reunite with Scott Stapp and release a new Creed album. Guitarist Mark Tremonti will also release his first solo record in 2012.
Hey, I think it's a very good track, but just one of many on that album. The first four songs are unreal!
I HOPE it's a killer-concert. But I'll definetly know in a few hours, and you all know in a couple of days.
RJ, I "said" earlier, that I thought that there was a better album than III released this year, Testimony 2, of course, but I have NOT heard a better track than "Wonderful life" this year. I know it's not your favorite-track of III, but it sure is mine!!!!
