The newest addition to the Cheap Trick Catalog has at least four songs that are outstanding slices of power pop, and they should be heard by the masses. Which leads me to Lap Of Luxury, the band's 1988 offering that was straight up pop music. It certainly worked from a commercial standpoint, as it became the band's first Platinum album since Dream Police in 1979. It produced three Top 40 singles, including Don't Be Cruel (#4) and the band's lone U.S. number 1 hit, The Flame. Tom Petersson was back in the band, but the band was forced to use outside songwriters for a large amount of the album's material. But that doesn't mean I don't like it. I liked it when it came out, and I still do to some extent. Can't explain why, just do. What about you?
