Classic Rock Bottom

I'm gonna name 5 Styx albums.  Everybody should rank them from 1-5, with 1 being your favorite and 5 being your least favorite.  I'll chime in with my answer in a reply instead of right here.  The 5 Styx albums are:

Equinox

Crystal Ball

The Grand Illusion

Pieces Of Eight

Paradise Theater

Now, since you're the only one around here beside me, Jon, that own some City Boy-albums, don't you agree, that those two bands sounds just a tiny bit alike?

In a way, but not really. Vocally no, instrumentally maybe. I think that City Boy has humour which Styx really did not in the pre-Gowan era.

I do 100% agree on your pick for the #1 album though. "Queen Of Spades", baby!

Not lead-vocally, no, but definitley the harmonies. Even on "Paradise Theater" I had quite a few of those "Wow, this sounds exactly like City Boy", and again it was the guitar and harmonies. Just like "Paradise Theater", City Boy made a similar concept-album (2 years ahead of Styx, in fact) called "The Day The earth Caught Fire".

I agree, that Styx haven't got the humour, which was important to me, when I became a CB-fan in the late 70's.

TDTECF is an awesome album, probably my favorite one from City Boy.

From www.prognaut.com:

Artist/ Band: City Boy
Title: City Boy
Label: Mercury/Renaissance
Year of Release: 1976/2008

..." but this and 1977’s Dinner At the Ritz are the most unpolluted by City Boy’s later Styx and Queen leanings."

I'm not so sure as this guy, though, who "stole" from who. "Equinox" sounds nothing like City Boy, and I never ever thought, that CB sounded like Queen.

I also foud out, that City Boy at some point opened for Styx in concert.

Welcome aboard newest Styx fan! I agree with Jon, you did very well selecting Pieces Of Eight as your #1 Queen album.

Put the bottle down...

Pirates like a bottle of rum while showing off their Pieces Of Eight, just glad our mate Niels wasn't gullible enough to fall for the Grand Illusion.
