ROCKOLLECTIONS: ST. PATRICK'S DAY PT.2 END

It's going on right now as I write this, St. Patrick's Day, and the marchers are parading.

It is also my Irish friend Dave Kenny's Birthday.

Oh the stories we could tell- drinking in Irish Bars up in the Bronx, all boroughs actually, all cities for that matter!

And they loved us in Canada, lol!

One night we invented Drunk Rock...a good story I must tell some day.

Continuing with my Roots Music, songs I used to…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: ST. PATRICK'S DAY PT.1

This show will be broadcast on Tuesday March 17th, St. Patrick's Day, and while over the years it has landed on the day of the show, I've only played a song or two to acknowledge it.

This year will be different.

For the first time ever, I will do a whole show dedicated to St. Patrick's Day.

And don't be frightened, I'll have Artists you know or have heard of, lol!

This is Roots Music for me, so join me as I…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: TRIOS PT.4 END

This is it, I am going to wrap it up with the Trios.

At least for now- there were many Leftovers, and I'd like to revisit some of the Groups I did play.

So it would seem a Sequel is called for at some future date.

There are Bands in here that can really create a sound and knew very well how to make our Music!

This short Series was a lot of fun for me.

I can only hope you feel the same way.

And that I brought…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: TRIOS PT.3

More Trios, and some songs doubtful are on today's Radio Computerized Playlists.

This Chapter is mostly 60's, but with dips into the 50's and 70's.

Included, a Band that shocked me by how full and loud a sound they had.

Remember, the Beatles were 4 guys and the Rolling Stones were 5!

And another that seemed to revel in having lost members, proudly proclaiming they were now a Trio.

Plus Musicians who got together…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: TRIOS PT.2

Prompted by March 3rd, or 03/03, I'll continue with Trios.

Remember the Girl Groups of the early 60's?

I'll have a couple that immediately come to mind.

And a Band that was a Trio that became Bigger, as well as one that was Bigger and became a Trio- not all that unusual in Rock & Roll.

To close this Episode, a Song for the Spiritual Side of this time of year.

This will be continued next week!

Hope you…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: TRIOS PT.1

Here's how this show came about.

I noticed it would be broadcast on March 3rd, or 03/03.

And that made me think of Trios.

Simple as that.

Join me for a listen!

ROCKOLLECTIONS: VOL2- THE BRITISH INVASION PT.2

I'll start this Episode with something that has bothered me for a long time and has nothing to do with the British Invasion.

It has to do with "Sports".

IN NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM IS THIS A SPORT, LOL!

And I'll even have a Song for it.

Then we'll spend some time with one of my favorites, The Yardbirds- looking back, a band that should have been much bigger than they were.

With some examples of how adventurous both Eric…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: VOL2- THE BRITISH INVASION PT.1

A New Year and a New Look at the British Invasion.

February always reminds me of the Beatles arrival in America in 1964, and that started the onslaught.

A good thing too, because Radio and Rock & Roll were suffering from a long period of Forty Miles Of Bad Road!

I'll have some Musical Questions, some songs that will test your memory- and given a choice between Do's and Dont's, I'll always go with Dont's.

Give a…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED PT.6 END

Buddy Holly was a Pioneer, using instruments on his songs no one else was doing, and getting into some Latin rhythms.

He was not really very good looking, nothing like Elvis or the other pretty boys, with his thick black glasses, bad teeth, etc.

But importantly, that allowed any average young guy to hope he too could become a Rock & Roll Star.

And Holly and the Crickets were self-contained- they wrote their own…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED PT.5

Alright, look at it this way, this is the 3rd HOUR, not the 3rd week commemorating Feb 3rd, 1959.

And this episode is about Buddy Holly because Holly was the major loss.

J.P. Richardson, The Big Bopper, undoubtedly would have returned to Radio.

Richie Valens was a wild card- he could have fizzled out or gone on to better things.

But Buddy already had an extensive catalogue of Music that musicians continue to play to…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED PT.4

This Chapter opens with a surprising Buddy Holly cover, that was also surprisingly done by Blind Faith on their one and only studio album.

After a little more Buddy, I'll play you another interview you probably have never heard.

This time it's Dick Clark with Buddy & The Crickets on the old American Bandstand, and again in October of 1958, just months before Holly's death.

And another bit of strangeness, one of the…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED PT.3

Some Planes crash, some Planes don’t.

In light of our subject, I’ll open this chapter up with a song for a Hero Pilot.

It’s about expecting more from yourself, and being better than the rest.

Remember, this was done in 2009.

I’ll give a tip of the hat to the end of last week’s show, the one with my favorite Buddy Holly song, by playing what was a rare version of it by a Wing, a Beatle and a Wife.

Frankly it's…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED PT.2

Moving on with the second half of a show done 50 Years To The Day after that Infamous Plane Crash on Feb. 3rd 1959, this Chapter is all Buddy Holly.

To me, Buddy ranks closely up there with the Beatles, and there is a real connection between them.

The Beatles chose their name because they wanted something similar to The Crickets-…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED PT.1

I saw that February 3rd would fall on the day of the terrestrial broadcast this year, and I was preparing for it.

The only other time that has ever happened was Feb. 3rd 2009- remarkably 50 YEARS TO THE DAY for the anniversary of Rock & Roll's First Tragedy on Feb. 3rd 1959- the Plane Crash That Killed Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: NEW MUSIC FROM OLD FRIENDS PT.2 END

More Music from some Old Friends who released new albums in 2014.

I was happily surprised by how good Neil Diamond's Melody Road is- it is simply comforting Neil Diamond type Music, he hasn't lost a step.

From Robert Plant came an album with a different sound for me, but I like it.

And very quietly Robert Gordon put out an album called I'm Coming Home, as usual with…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: NEW MUSIC FROM OLD FRIENDS PT.1

Not much I can add to the Subject this week.

It's Music by some heavyweight artists who released new albums in 2014.

While I refuse to supply a playlist, I will tell you the New in this Part One comes from Bob Seger, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tom Petty & Heartbreakers- and what-was-he-thinking strangeness from Neil Young.

All song selections are totally subjective, simply…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE CYCLE OF LIFE PT.8 FINAL

Well, we have been through Birth, Childhood, Adolescence, Marriage, Child Rearing, Middle Age and Old Age.

And we have put it off for as long as possible, just like in Real Life.

But now...now it is Time For Us To Die!

It is part of The Cycle Of Life.

However, you should know me by now, and you don't think I'd leave you all depressed and bummed out with a bunch…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE CYCLE OF LIFE PT.7

Last week we hit Middle Age.

This week The Cycle Of Life takes us into Old Age.

And while it has its Joys, it comes with its own Perils too- Loneliness, Senility, the ever present Specter Of The Grim Reaper to name a few.

But so what, we made it this far, Let's Grow Old Together!
