ROCKOLLECTIONS: JUKEBOX MUSIC PT.1

It's the Jukebox or the Juke Box this time out (either spelling is acceptable), that coin-operated Phonograph.

I'll have some History here- both about that machine and with the Music I'll play.

And see if you can pick up on the thread that holds together the longest set in here.

I forgot to mention that it was 78's that replaced cylinders on the original Jukebox.

Then in the 50's, the 45 RPM singles took over.

To be…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: ONE MORE FOR THE RECORD

There were too many good Songs About Records left over to leave them out.

So I thought I'd come back and finish it up.

There was one vinyl single I placed close to me a long time ago, just in case I ever did a show about Records.

Bad move, lol!

Included are some songs about doing everything possible for a Hit Record.

And then, having established a new lifestyle, trying to get Another Hit.

Hope you…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: REMEMBERING PETE FORNATALE AND FM RADIO PT.2

Continuing with Pete Fornatale and those early days of FM Rock Radio, he was very passionate about the Music- and among his favorites were Poco, the Beach Boys and songs about Radio.

DJ's come from around the country to work in New York City.

Again Pete was different- he was homegrown, he was one of us, with all the memories and experiences that come with that unique upbringing here.

He wrote books too, and I…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: REMEMBERING DICK CLARK AND PETE FORNATALE PT.1

This show title and photo is slightly deceptive.

I will spend a little time with Dick Clark.

And did you know there was a song written by an ex-Byrd ABOUT Dick Clark?

The rest of this half hour, and all of the next, will be dedicated in fond memory to a guy who inspired and encouraged me to tackle those large and long Themes I sometimes do.

And the short ones too.

It now appears the first to bring a calm…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: RECORD STORE DAY PT.2

Finishing up my comfortable acknowledgement of Record Store Day this Saturday, a recreation by Thomas Edison, inventor of the Phonograph or Gramophone, of the first words he ever spoke on Record, which was actually on a Cylinder.

And believe it or not, those can still be found.

I'll go off on another rant about how people don't actually physically HOLD Music in their hands anymore!

But for me, the Centerpiece of this…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: RECORD STORE DAY PT.1

Ever timely, I'll pay due respect to Record Store Day, which is this Saturday.

The Day is dedicated to Independent storeowners, and while I am sure there must be one somewhere in my neighborhood, they have become very hard to find.

These are people who love what they do, it's more than just a job.

And they can be very helpful in finding a record for you, just reciting some lyrics is frequently all it takes.

So for…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: VOL.1- THE ORIGINALS PT.2

The simple continues.

Songs we know very well, Originally done by other solo artists or groups.

And I am pretty sure I have at least a couple of surprises in this Episode.
Notice I am calling this Volume 1.
That's because there are so many of these, I…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: VOL.1- THE ORIGINALS PT.1

It's simple this time.

There are many songs we know very well, maybe were Big Hits.

And some were Originally done by other solo artists or groups.

In a lot of these cases, that is a big surprise, unknown to us.

In other cases, we know or have heard about these Originals.

That's it, I'll be playing them...simple as that.

One great memory, there is a version of a Folk Ballad in here with such great acoustic…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: ART AND ARTISTS PT.4 END

Loudon Wainwright III set the table at the end of the last Chapter.

This final time out it's songs about Famous Artists In History!

Beginning with the man who brung us to the party.

I'll have a song in here I particularly like from 1968, one that I would have found a reason to play someday even without this Series.

But it fits!

Included are some album cuts from both a commercial failure and a smash…
