EXCLUSIVE TO HERE- NEW YORK SONGS 2007 PTS. 1 & 2

Tomorrow night I will be posting Part One of this year's 9/11 remembrance with New York City Songs and more.
If you are interested, I did TWO WEEKS of shows in 2007, Sept.4 & Sept.11- the ONLY time the show has ever fallen on Sept.11th.
Here are both halves of the Sept 4th broadcast.
The Sept. 11th one will follow as the week progresses.
I thank you,
Mike

PART ONE
As we approach the 6th Anniversary of 9/11, I will continue with a tradition I started on the first anniversary.
Playing songs about New York City- a celebration of my city, and mostly a sort of aural way of spitting in the eye of those responsible, and those fanatical nitwits who continue to love blowing things up!
I have to tell you, there are more songs about NYC than ANY other place on earth- nothing even comes close. And each year I find more and more.
Over the years, I have played some sets and songs I am really proud of.
This time, I will begin with a song that if you have spent any time in New York City in the last 25-30 years, was unavoidable.
Although I live in Brooklyn, I fully realize that when people think of New York, they visualize the borough of Manhattan.
A song for Manhattan, by the pairing of Rod Stewart & Bette Midler.
Then a great rocker for global tracking the location of our radio station.
While people come here from all over the world, there has always been a migration from the American South.
I’ll play two songs- one for a Southerner we made a good impression on, and the other a bad one.
We will close this first chapter out with a tune by Lucy Kaplansky, about what can make a girl feel like she is the prettiest in all of New York City- the guy she is with!
Coming up next, a march down the world’s most famous street.

PART TWO
As we continue with our New York Songs, a theme within a theme.
There is no more famous street in the world than Broadway- it is non-negotiable!
Beginning with a short song by Harry Nilsson, we will March Down Broadway.
Marching along with us for this entire chapter will be the likes of Wilson Pickett, Billy Joel, the Goo Goo Dolls, Bee Gees, Genesis, naturally the Drifters, and even James Cagney.
Oh, and at the end of our march, we will be turning on 42nd Street.
Wear something light, comfortable shoes, and keep in step.
Let’s look sharp out there!

Okay, so none of my songs made it on part 1...maybe part 2.

Mike, I've never heard a single song from that playlist, but I liked it. My favorite songs were:

Ian Hunter - Central Park and West (very catchy melody)

Buck Owens - Can't remember the title, but I loved this song. Not because it was not favorable to New York, but because it's Buck Owens. I've never owned any of his music, but that's about to change. I remember watching him on Hee Haw with my Father. I think he has a song called "Act Naturally" that's really killer, and I also dig the song he did with Dwight Yoakam called "The Streets Of Bakersfield".

Lucy ? - Love Song New York (couldn't manage to get her last name, but this is a great song.)

Well, I can (allmost) think of one more, even though it's called "Rock'n'Roll city". It goes :

New York New York too bad to be pretty
New York New York rock'n'roll city
New York New York town without pity
New York New York rock'n'roll city.

but I doubt very much, that it's in the show, because it's by the danish musician Kim Larsen, from a record he made in '81, when he lived in... yes you've guessed it...New York!!

Well, this show I'm pumped for. I'll listen to both parts at work a little later. I'm looking for the only 3 New York songs that I know (or can think of):

New York Groove (Ace Frehley) - 32 years old this year, so maybe the first song?

New York, New York (Frank Sinatra)

New York State Of Mind (Billy Joel)
