Classic Rock Bottom

I'll get you off to a rocking start to this chapter of our Harvest Moon Ball.
I love it when our minds get in synch, and people write to me anticipating what I am going to play.
The MOST anticipated song will be played this time out...or in.
Sometimes I don't feel like writing, this is one of those times.
I don't get paid to write, I get paid to talk, lol!
Suffice it to say I have harvested some terrific music that will leave you surprised that they weren't on the first two episodes, and also have your memory synapses shooting electrical pulses all around your brain.
Trying to shoehorn as much music in as I could leading to the break, I was unable to fully play a tune by my favorite Canadian band- a band that has always been far too ignored, not only nowadays but even when they were at their peak and most productive- they made some outstanding music.
I really like the way this Pt.3 turned out.
Hope you feel the same way.

Dear RJ,
Wow, too bad you didn't like the first song- I would gotten a perfect score, a 10.0, lol!
That's high praise indeed.
Your favorite show.
Now how do I live up to it, lol?
Dance The Night Away by The Mavericks was a fave I was saving, just a killer song!
And as I wrote, I made folks wait for Dance With Me by Orleans, they knew I had to play it.
I LOVE the Kinks, they have so many great songs, and I felt I would blow some minds sneaking that almost forgotten song in there.
You owe it to yourself to start a Kinks collection- Ray Davies has been and is a genius!
He writes for the common man.
I threw some songs in there that didn't have Dancing or Dance in the title- Change Partners by Stephen Stills was one of them that fit wonderfully.
He does have a great R&R voice, and besides CSN&Y he goes way back to the old Buffalo Springfield with Neil.
And THERE'S another group you should get into.
I am a little surprised you didn't know When You Dance I Can Really Love, since it is from such a famous album, but happy to turn you on to it.
And if you haven't heard it before, it is NEW, lol!
I sincerely thank you for the kind words about this one.
If you look at what I wrote, I had a good feeling about it.
But that included ALL the songs, even that first one, lol!
Well, if I have outdone myself I have nowhere to go but down, but I'll go swinging with a very interesting final chapter coming next!
And by the way, I would definitely have played, and probably will someday, Leo Sayer's "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing".
I like that song!
Again, thanks for some of the most challenging and fun comments I get- Scott is terrific too- and you both keep me on my toes being daring enough to make song predictions, and that is ballsy as well as smart,
Mike

Just read Scott's comments and immediately though of Leo Sayer's "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing". But after reading Mike's rebuttal, I presume not.

Disclaimer, do not read this comment before listening to this show.

Mike, I'm posting my comment here first so that I don't read Scott's comment first. I'll copy this to Classic Rock Bottom.

I've listened to quite a few shows over the last few months. Occasionally, a show comes along that takes it's rightful place at the top of "my favorite" show. This would be that show.

The only song that didn't strike me was the first one. Everything else I really loved. Dance The Night Away by The Mavericks really impressed me. And we finally got Dance With Me by Orleans. We all knew that one was coming, sooner or later.

Come Dancing by The Kinks was great. You know, every time I turn around I'm hearing a song by The Kinks that I didn't know or had forgotten about (the latter applies here). And for some reason, I have no Kinks in my music collection. This show serves to remind me that I must correct that oversight.

I loved Change Partners by Stephen Stills. That guy has a terrific voice and all of CSN&Y are great songwriters, which brings me to Neil Young. I've never heard When You Dance I Can Really Love before, but that's another "new" terrific song to me.

Outstanding show Mike. You have outdone yourself.

Dear Scott,
Hey I owe you a response for Pt.1, just saw it, got lost in the shuffle.
That "organ" story is true, and later this morning the terrestrial station will play it- wonder how that will go over with those stuffed shirts, lol?
I really liked the Mavericks song in this one.
Kept people waiting for Orleans' great tune- it can be an effective way to maintain listeners...sometimes, lol!
They are a great band, and one of my favorites I have played by them in Spring is Spring Fever.
I too only have it on vinyl.
Do you know it?
Not familiar with Shaw Blades, you can't know them all, but I try.
Can you send it?
Sometimes, like with you and the Kinks, songs grow on you- one day you go, hey I love that song!
And I knew that was a sneaky one to throw in the mix, lol!
I am extremely happy that Norma Jean is smiling at me for the Stephen Stills/Neil Young combo.
As for Pt.4, NO, LOL!
The lines were clearly drawn back then, Rock vs Disco- have you ever seen the blowing up of the disco records at Wrigley Field in Chicago between games of a doubleheader?
They blew up so many they had to call off the 2nd game!
I have mellowed some since them, and will play disco songs.
And I came VERY close to playing ABBA for the first time ever on the radio- that song you named.
But I am afraid none of those songs came to mind and made the show.- I always have so many leftovers anyway.
I will give you a clue though, just between you and me, the last chapter mainly deals with people who DON'T Dance, lol!
Thanks for listening and writing, hope I haven't disappointed you,
Mike

Love the humor in the "organ" reference. hahahaha. Made me think of a few jokes I wont repeat in this forum.

Ive been waiting for the Orleans. What a great band! They have another hit song titled "Love Takes Time" that gets a lot of rotation in my players. May have to go pull out the vinyl and get reasquainterd with some other tunes. Dance With Me always goes over really well. Shaw Blades did a version of it recently that is really good as well.

And I totally whiffed on the Kinks tune, shoudl have thought of that one. I think I like it more now than when it came out.

Nice call on the Stephen Stills/Neil Young. Norma Jean is smiling down on you for sure! I dont know alot of the Still stuff, but the legacy bands they left behind are awesome to this day. Poco, Firefall, Eagles, etc....

For Part 4 (if there is one) - could it be disco themed?
You Should Be Dancing - Bee Gees
Stomp - Brothers Johnson
Dancing Queen - ABBA ... would you really go there? Im thinking not...

and the ultimate encore....

Boogie Wonderland - Earth Wind and Fire

I dont think you'd do it, but it was fun to think about these tunes anyway :-)
