ROCKOLLECTIONS: 1967 AND THE SUMMER OF LOVE PT.14

A lot of traveling in this episode, finishing up in L.A. and then a trip across country back to New York.
After that, short stop on Long Island, before the long journey across the pond to more of the scene in England.
The end of Summer is just days away, and I still have a huge pile of records I wanted to play but never got to.
So much for the SUMMER Of Love!
I'll have to re-invent this series somehow...I am simply not done and I am the one who picks the music, lol!
So expect a return to that wonderful year 1967 at some future date.
This is an interesting chapter with some unusual musical choices I can't explain- it was just the mood I was in at the time, but I love that Free-Form freedom!
For some, I will undoubtedly by providing a few "Oh Wow!" moments.
For others, an introduction to music they have never heard.
And isn't that grand in these days of bland, repetitive Radio?
Let's be pseudo-hippies for a half hour and spread the Love, lol!

Let's link together to hear this one, using links to get to Mike Pell Rockollections:

What the hell is a "pict"?

Not "Picture"!

"Pict"!

"Picture" makes no sense at all whatsoever! C'mon, Mike!

Whatever happened to Nico anyway?

Jon,
You WOULD like that Pink Floyd and not the Stones song, lol!
And you are missing out on some GREAT music they did long before Sticky Fingers.
In fact, no record collection is complete without...lol!
I see what you mean about Lou Reed now, but hell, I would have to do more with Nico than just sing with her!
Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Picture...or an album called Animals eh, lol?

You know what? I like that Pink Floyd and completely forgot you played it. Damn! The Stones song wasn't for me, I'm really not a Stones fan until Sticky Fingers.

What's next for Lou Reed? A pairing with Metallica? Oh wait.....

Now you need to play Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict for some more Floyd weirdness!

Jon,
A vast difference between those two Velvet Underground songs.
What are you trying to say about Lou Reed, lol?
I don't think I have ever heard those Association songs done by anybody else, the songs are too "Associated" with that group!
I really wanted to play non-hits for them, but I didn;t have time, but I'll get my chance!
Beginning WITH the Leslie West & The Vagrants song I lost it, lol!
I wanted to play something loud and strange to follow the Vagrants, so I chose that early Pink Floyd song...which in turn led me to the Stones song...which may have been even stranger!
Made sense to me...at the time, lol!
Actually, it still does...I can sometimes understand myself!
Thanks for the listen and writing pal,
Mike

Interesting difference between those two Velvet Underground songs. What's weird is that Nico sang like Lou Reed, he has a certain "style" I guess you could say. I like The Association songs, believe I've heard different versions from different artists, could be wrong though. But after the Leslie West song, I kinda lost it. I dunno why....
