ROCKOLLECTIONS: 4TH OF JULY 2013 PT.1

We are just days away from Independence Day...or the 4th Of July for those who haven't connected them!
Alright, enough of that- I'll save my rowdy ways for Part Two, in this here Part One I am nice.
This show will be broadcast terrestrially July 2nd.
Last year it was on July 3rd.
How is it that I am moving backward in time, lol?
I have mentioned before that Engineer Ken Stanley and I were always reluctant to play very LONG Songs when I used to go to the station.
The suits left us alone, and we didn't want to draw attention to ourselves.
But Ken has left to frolic in the woods, and I am alone picking the Music at home.
So in BOTH halves expect to hear a lengthy track.
And as always, I try to present these Rockollections shows with a slightly different look at things.
Hopefully, that works out to a surprise or two for you.
Tell you one thing, that Long Cut in here is very appropriate for this Holiday Calendar, and used to get a LOT of airplay back in the Free-Form FM Radio days.
Enjoy!
Here are the links to listen, have a hot dog and a beer and wave the Flag, at Mike Pell Rockollections:

Oh I've been thinking about that Harmony for years.

Man, I'll never run out of ideas, lol!

Hard part is getting the songs...takes so much time.

That's it, Battlefield Earth!

Jesus, Ed Wood couldn't have done worse, lol!

Er...Jon...that picture...it's a girl?

A show on harmony! That's a terrific idea.  I hope you get to it sooner than later, 'cause I love me some harmony.

Jon,

I just listened to Mardi Gras recently, I thought it was alright.

I think you got it, the songs flow better or something on the studio albums instead of on a greatest hits-type disc.

Interesting thing about the Box Set is there is a lot of the beginning stuff they did on the first CD.

RJ, JR, J&R, ZZ Top, etc.,
Someday I'll do a show on Harmony, and the Hollies are among my top ten, maybe five.
I don't either know how Jon cannot like this stuff, but he's Jon, lol!
Since you know the CCR song, you almost HAVE to give the Golden Pell to the Hollies, it's the right thing to do!
I did Hurricane Sandy remember, and I never thought of John Travolta and the song Sandy from Grease.
Mainly because I have never seen it.
I saw him in Saturday Night Fever only because a girl I was going out with wanted to, and because some scenes in that movie were filmed in my neighborhood.
I hated disco, and that was enough Travolta for me, lol!
Pulp Fiction may be the only other flick I've seen...oh wait, there was that horrendous Scientology space one he made that was so BAD it was perversely enjoyable.
Yes, Chicago and CCR back to back, and another Pell iconic radio moment, lol!
Van's Almost Independence Day is long, but it truly was played very very often as the 4th Of July approached here in New York.
An FM Turntable Hit they called those.
Hey, everybody's opinion is the BEST one they know of, lol!
Wait till you hear Part Two...I went a little nuts.
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

Yeah, the only one I didn't pick up by CCR was "Mardi Gras" which, from what I've read, totally sucks si i really have no need for that.

What's interesting is that I can't get into Chronicles 2, but like the individual albums as a complete whole. Maybe the songs flow better or something on the studio albums instead of on a greatest hits-type disc. I dunno.

Jon,
So you know Hamilton Camp?
Good man, and this show will always be a learning experience for you, lol!
Man you hate BRUUUUUUUUUUUUCE!
And now besides Springsteen, the Hollies don't like you either, lol!
I love that Chicago album too, and especially the tracks you mentioned.
You have 6 CCR albums?
Didn't they only make like 7?
I don't have Creedence's Chronicles, but I do have the Box Set.
Plus, I guess, all the individual albums, give or take one.
That Van Morrison song was definitely played on the radio back in 1972, and for years after on WNEW-FM here in NYC.
The key thing here is you thought it was fantastic, while RJ actually aged listening to it, lol!
I like it, and I was a boozer not a drug taker- I only wanted to get controllably high...which didn't always work, lol!
Part 2 is ALL BRUUUUUUCE, I even went 15 minutes OVER with it!
Just kidding!
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

Michael, Mikey, Micro, Mike...nice show.

That first song was A-OK, but not quite good enough for the Golden Pell.  That must go to the Hollies.  That's a great version of BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE'S cool song.  How Jon cannot like this stuff I'll never know.  Anyway, the harmonies are magnificent.  On a side note, it's not the best song ever about Sandy, that would belong to John Travolta and the song Sandy from Grease.

Chicago and CCR back to back.  Very nice and a very, very strong middle portion of the show.  That CCR tune has to be one of the best rock songs ever, if only for the cowbell!

But that last song.  Man, the Fourth Of July came and went while that song was playing.  Not only was it too long, it was too not good.  My opinion of course.  As you know, I still value your opinion quite highly, almost as high as my own.
