ROCKOLLECTIONS: BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE PT.2 END

After a song to begin this 2nd half which you will surely know, I had a song I wanted to play by BTO mainly for Engineer Ken Stanley.
It was fun back in those days, he and I would be the only ones in that part of the building- everyone else had gone home.
Me in the studio, Ken outside at the control board...and it seemed like just two guys listening to Music.
The show was almost an afterthought, lol!
To me, this song was a discovery- I liked the band’s playing on it, and once again, the band’s jazzy overtones or undertones...or some kind of tones.
Not so much the lyrics though, they seemed rather…well I’ll let you hear me have some fun getting on myself for putting on an air.
It is my considered opinion, I do not look good in airs- and immediately took the damn things off, lol!
Anyway, the song may be like nothing you have ever heard from Bachman Turner Overdrive.
Then a huge hit written by Randy Bachman 8 years before, when he was a member of the Guess Who.
Although with different lyrics and based on a DJ’s expression.
Then of course, there was the usual matter of band decomposition- as the 2 other brothers asked the third, Robbie, to leave.
That’s gotta hurt!
BTO always liked the old Rock & Roll- Elvis and the Stones, and came along at just the right time.
They and others brought guitar-rock back, and called it Workingman’s Rock & Roll!
For that alone, they should be remembered.

Ewww..you bounced off Engineer Ken?

I have the first 3 Moody Blues albums I believe. That's good enough for me!

Who's Richard Bachman? Really?

Jon,
The first Moody Blues album I ever bought was Days Of Future Passed, two years before the non-FM people caught up, and it blew me away.
Never mind those later albums, which admittedly contain some excellent music.
I cannot emphasize this enough...GET THE FIRST SEVEN ALBUMS beginning with Days Of Future Passed!
Again, let me repeat...GET THE FIRST, KNOWN AS THE CORE SEVEN, ALBUMS BY THE MOODY BLUES!!!
They are absolutely essential to a collection, and I am not at all kidding!
Hey screw you, I sounded more peppy, lol!
I had Engineer Ken to bounce off of then, plus they wanted me to talk more.
Now I do the show alone from home and they take what I give them.
And I like it better, as I place more importance on the music, play longer sets, and there is less me.
I am just as peppy as ever...but I do carry a pocketful of Viagra wherever I go, lol!
Ya never know when you might meet a girls' softball team!
Who is Richard Bachman?
Both the rockers and the jazzy ones hold up after these years, but there are plenty of rockers out there, so the jazzy ones appeal to certain late night moods of mine.
ALL bands including The Guess Who get really rocky in the latter years!
Ever hear of the Beatles, lol?
Thanks for the listen, writing, and being your usual smartass,
Mike

The thing is, the first moody Blues album I ever bought was "Long Distance Voyager" which I thought was great, and still do. Then when I bought the followup, I thought it sucked. So that's why I said I didn't...

Oh. This is BTO. Ummm...

Uhhh....

You sound younger on this show. Like you had pep. Now you sound, well, non-peppy. Viagra run out or something?

I wonder if Richard Bachman was ever in the group. Before he changed his name. Do you know?

I have all these songs and have heard them all on the radio at one time or da udder, except for that last jam song. That was pretty good. And I till heard me some jazz which me likey!

If'n I'm right, The Guess Who got really rocky in the latter years. Right?

Scott,
Hahahahaha...Hey You (your all time favorite BTO tune), I didn't mean doing in a sexual way!!!
I remember Christopher Walken in that SNL Dont Fear the Reaper skit.
Been thinking about Cowbell songs for a Theme, so I'd have to play You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet again.
That's amazing, because Blue Collar was new to me, and you knew it so well it made your geetar list!
I checked out the list, and there was a link, and it gave a time under an hour- was I supposed to be able to HEAR those songs?
Didn't work for me.
White Collar Worker most certainly wasn't a Guess Who style of song, can't imagine them doing it.
Ah all those bands, even brothers, end up breaking up at some point.
And Hey you is your fave all time, lol!
The Golden Pell to Blue Collar is alright with me.
Honestly, I never heard it on the radio at all.
And I was so thrilled to bring it in and introduce people to it, even though I think you'd admit the lyrics are nothing special.
But I ran into a BTO expert like you who was very familiar with it...damn, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing, and the kind "Great series",
Mike

You are doing Bachman Turner Overdrive?  hahahahaha...

You remember that Cowbell skit on SNL that used the Dont Fear the Reaper tune?  You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet would have worked perfectly as well.  All I can see in my minds eye is Will Farrell bangin' on the Cowbell, and I got the fever!

Blue Collar is one my all-time favorite geetar tunes!  I even used in a playlist about geetar treasures quite awhile back.  Check it out if you want to..  http://classic-rock-bottom.ning.com/forum/topics/scotts-hidden-trea...

"White Collar Worker" certainly wasn't a Guess Who style of song.  It makes me wonder if this was a crack in the band at the time?  I dont know the story but that was the thought I had when you mentioned that the band turned the song down.

"Hey You" is my all time favorite BTO tune.  Still sounds good to this day!

So Ive heard every tune youve played so its hard to pick a Golden Pell, but lets do this and give it to Blue Collar since thats likely the one track that didnt get a ton of radio airplay.

Great series!
