ROCKOLLECTIONS: BACK TO BACK TO SCHOOL PT.1

This was the 3rd week's show in a Series I was doing before I was so rudely interrupted in September 2009.
Never one to waste an idea, I had added songs by 2010, and a different time in free-form radio brings different results.
NO songs from 2009 will be repeated- all distinct selections for this 2010!
It is that most awful time of year again, resulting in going Back To Back To School
, kicking and screaming!
I will open with a school that I might...just might...have had fun attending.
Continuing on with some good old Rock & Roll having to do with School.
Then another fond look back, this time at those wonderful School Days.
And I must emphasize that I mean the Time Period of our lives, NOT the actual tortuous hours physically spent IN School, lol!
Have fun if you can!
Another half coming.
Here are the links to listen, and if you are going back you have my sympathy, at Mike Pell Rockollections:

I figured it was before Tim, but surprised about the writing.

Doesn't he usually write his own songs?

Definitely before Tim's, but I'm pretty sure Tim didn't write it.

RJ,
I don't think hte first 2 shows a year earler had as much of an oldies flavor, but I haven't heard them in 4 years now.
They'll be next year's reruns, lol!
I KNEW you thought I was gonna say Gene Simmons...I just have to say Gene, lol!
And the Golden Pell to Loudon Wainright III.
Listening to the playback, that was the one song I didn't think belonged in there for a couple of reasons.
Now I am glad I played it!
Excellent detective work on your part finding that Tim McGraw song.
You are dead on they sound alike!
Not saying Tim stole it, but Loudon's song is from 1970, long before Tim's right?
Thanks for the listen and writing bro,
Mike

John,

Gin may have an odor, I think it's vodka that doesn't- but I always hated vodka.

After I gave up drinking I read somewhere that a sprig of parsley will take away the booze smell.

"Yeah, the youth of today don't understand the beauty of a concussion or getting stitches after tumbling off a bike. WIMPS!"
You tell 'em my man, that's the way I truly feel.

And no doubt why I love hockey- it was great hitting someone who had their head down...just lay them out!

Oddly, I even enjoyed getting hit, got me in the game with a vengeance.

This show had a decidedly oldies flavor.  And I liked it.  Not really a bad song in the bunch.

You said Gene Summers, I thought you were gonna say Gene Simmons.

The Chuck Berry tune is great.  I liked that Kinks tune too.  And it almost got the Golden Pell.  But not quite.

The GP goes to Loudon Wainright III.  I really liked that one.  But something was very familiar about it.  I thought and thought.  I knew this melody.  It finally hit me:

Tell me these two songs don't share a melody...

I think we drank gin mixed with something since gin doesn't have an odor.

Yeah, the youth of today don't understand the beauty of a concussion or getting stitches after tumbling off a bike. WIMPS!

Wow, a friend's house- what did you drink, moonshine?

Or did you add water to the vodka bottles to hide the consumption, lol?

Not only do those wimos wear helmets, they have that rubber padded ground to fall on.

Hell, you're SUPPOSED to fall and get cuts, scrapes & broken bones- it toughens you up

That's why they ARE whining crybabies!

Yeah, senior year we would go to a friends house for lunch, drink alcohol and go back to school completely messed up. Never got busted.

Nowadays, kids can't do that. Wimps. That's why they wear helmets while skateboarding and riding bikes. Wimpy wimps.

Jon,
Gee, your writing exudes sympathy, lol!
A very very funny piece- you are a good writer!
I can see things like these can affect your later years, and I no longer wonder why, lol!
But having liquid lunches in high school?
Hell I was a drunk but I didn't do that...you have to be kidding.
Love the rant on school being evil and mean, lol!
I would have liked Home Schooling.
And I am the oldest of 5 brothers!
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike
