ROCKOLLECTIONS: BOB DYLAN'S 30TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT PT.3

CHAPTER THREE!
Well, now it was 20 years and ONE WEEK ago, on October 16, 1992, that an all-star celebration of the 1962 release of Bob Dylan's first album took place at Madison Square Garden here in New York City.
And things will get musically very interesting as the evening goes along at the Concert, which you may be interested to know was on American Pay Per View television.
This was a momentous, fitting tribute to one of the true living legends of our time.
Neil Young humorously but aptly nicknamed it Bobfest!
For these last two parts we have a dream lineup.
I don’t want to give anything away, ruin it if you have never heard these performances.
Again as in the past, I ask you to just trust me- we’ll hear some of the biggest names in the world of Rock & Roll stretching, reworking and putting their own stamp on the music of Bob Dylan.
However I will tell you I will open this chapter with Neil Young scorching a song that is probably more associated with Jimi Hendrix.
I wonder how many have forgotten it was first done by Bob on one of his albums…or never knew?
These are some incredible live performances!
As always, enjoy!

I'm awarding the Golden Pell right off the bat today.  It's going to Neil Young for his rendition of All Along The Watchtower.  What a great song.  And it's true that it belongs to Jimi.   I've even read that Bob prefers Jimi's version.  Neil definitely does it justice.

The rest is all thrown into the same basket for me.  It's all pretty good.  The one thing I have noticed is the terrific guitar work on many of the songs.  Like the Chrissy Hynde and Eric Clapton tunes.  I don't know who played the guitar on the Hynde track (do you Mike?) but he or she or they did a great job.  And Clapton did turn his song into a great blues track.  Very nicely done.

I guess Scott is saying his job is more important than mine so he can't listen as closely as I do. How vewy. vewy wude.

Ok, maybe I missed the I have a cold comment, bit was listening in pieces and parts throughout the day because I had to work too... How else could I support this burdensome music habit of mine....

Jon,
Well I said the Concert would get better as it went along, although in tonight's chapter I will go back earlier for a song I didn't think I could fit in.
I think Scott was kidding with that question, he had to have heard me say I have a cold.
But nice of you to listen so closely and hang on my every word, lol!
Wow, it's been a while since you liked them all!
You are so prissy and difficult to please, lol!
And yes, I'll accept George Harrison as a geetar hero...take some time to listen closely to him.
Plus his peers felt that way about him.
I used to fall asleep with a beer in my hand- believe me, the next day it is flat and stale!
But I have never had 20-year old hot dogs, so I can't say for sure, lol!
Thanks for listening and writing,
Mike

Scott,
I think you are kidding with that question, but yeah I got a cold, lol!
Honestly I hadn't thought of Dave Mason's version of All Along The Watchtower until you mentioned it.
And I have been meaning to listen to his Best Of CD for months now, wonder if it is on it?
Never knew that story that it was Dave Mason that played the Dylan version of this song at a party he was hosting that Hendrix attended.
Very plausible though, since Hendrix had his original success over in England.
Clapton REALLY reworked that song!
Great choice for the Golden Pell going to George Harrison- his Absolutely Sweet Marie just jumps out out you!
One more chapter to come, it's a good one.
I thank you for the Goden Pell (please...a moment of silence for RJ, lol!) and for listening and writing,
Mike

This is more like it. However, sad that some people weren't obviously listening and have to ask if you have a cold. Gee people, try to listen to what Mike says once in awhile!

It stated of really great with Neil Young and Chrissie Hynde and then I liked Eric Clapton and then....hell, I actually liked them all and I'm not too big of a fan of George Harrison (geetar hero?) and The Band. And there was something at the end I wanted to comment on.....oh yeah. Beer never gets stale. Neither do hot dogs.

Mike, you got a cold?  You sound alittle stuffy....

All Along The Watchtower is an interesting tune.  I know it best because of Jimi Hendrix but there is yet another version performed by Dave Mason that is very cool as well.  The reason I like that version is because it was Dave Mason that played the Dylan version of this song at party he was hosting that Hendrix attended.  As I understand it, Hendrix decided to record it that night, Mason played a 12-string on it, and the rest as they say ... is history.

Loved the Clapton rework.  Great geetar work as expected.  But the Golden Pell goes to George Harrison!

I wake up around 2:45 and get ready for that work thing.

Excellent guess!
What the hell are you doing up at this hour?

Without listening I'm going to guess "All Along The Watchtower".
