Classic Rock Bottom

Like I said last time, it caught my eye that last week was Celebrate Your Name Week, a holiday established in 1997 by Jerry Hill.
A week for appreciating names in general, and to have fun getting to know more about names.
Since I am already late with this, I will further break the rules and make it for two weeks- Songs For John And Mary.
I did John songs in the first half hour.
Need I tell you what is next, lol?
I am sure you will enjoy this chapter.
But why would I include Thomas Edison?
Listen to find out!

Here are the links to some very good Mary songs I think you will like, at Mike Pell Rockollections:

RJ,
You AGREE with Jon???
That must be very difficult for you, lol!
Maybe you guys are right and Mary is better, but not by much.
And incidentally, I may return with John & Mary next week with my usual more eclectic choices, where you may only KNOW two songs, lol!
It is true what I said, seems nobody plays Johnny Mathis anymore- and I could play him again next week, another song of his fits.
I hadn't heard the McCartney song in a long time, he didn't put it on his 2-CD collection Wingspan for obvious reasons, lol!
So I kind of liked it. Had a hard time FINDING that one too!
The Association's Along Comes Mary gets the Classic Golden Pell...that's two counting Scott.
Fine with me, I LOVE the Association!
Thanks for the listen, writing, and the Classic brother, lol,
Mike

Jon,

This is a scholarly show, of course I would think of Mary Magdalene, lol!

Matter of fact, I considered playing a great and beautiful song with that name by Cry Cry Cry.

I will someday.

Never saw Jesus Christ Superstar on Broadway, and couldn't take the movie.

Just listened to the album, and that was slightly BEFORE it was released.Don't ask how, lol!

That was a good show Mike.  And I'll actually agree with Jon, Mary was a bit better than John.  But hey, I knew almost every song.  I only had two to choose the Golden Pell from, and neither of them made me tingle (although What Will Mary Say by Johnny Mathis was better than McCartney & Wings' song).

Therefore, I'm awarding a Classic Golden Pell to the best of the songs I'm familiar with.  All of those songs were really good, but I'm gonna go with The Association's Along Comes Mary for the Classic Golden Pell.  Great songs all the way around brother.

And with that, we all die! I just had a feeling that someone was going to bring that up, hoping it would go under the radar.

Talking about that, I saw Jesus Christ Superstar on Broadway in the 70's. I was so young back then, I only remember the end, but I wonder if it was Ian Gillan on stage. Back then I would have had no idea who he was, but it would be interesting to know, I guess.

Mary Magdalene?

I'm sure there's a hooker named Mary somewhere...

Hahahahahahaha...good thinking- actually you can't get your mind off it, lol!

Remember, it's John & MARY, NOT John & Hookers, lol!

Hey, you need to play a song from John Lee HOOKER!

Comment by Mike Pell on March 13, 2013 at 11:31pm
Jon,
Oh no, you are going to dwell on the Hookers, LOL!
I thought both parts were equally good, it's next week I am worried about, lol!
Hey I asked about your missing "H".
I knew a poor kid, even poorer than I was, who couldn't afford a letter in his name, lol!
Are you telling me you haven't listened to Aqualung?
I hope you have it...because if you don't, your collection is...well, you know!
And you listened to that WIngs song TWICE without recognizing Paul's voice?
Get out, lol!
I have said it before, I was a Rock snob, and NEVER thought I would play the Monkees.
So don't ask me about lyrics by them, I never payed attention, lol!
If anything, I should remember them from the Butterfield Blues Band.
Hahahahaha...there you are again with the Hookers! YES!!!!!!!!
Pass on Jimi?
Nah, that was a fastball right down the middle!
Thanks for writing and listening, and Hookers! YES!!!!!!!!

Scott,
Seems like you are Celebrating Your Name, lol!
And that name has some proud history.
Caught you with that CCR song eh!
I thought of the CCR right away when I thought of doing the shows.
But soon after I had the Monkees tune in mind.
What I didn't know was that the Monkees was one of the hardest songs for me to find.
Man, everywhere I thought it would be, it wasn't!
I would say not good if the Monkees come...oh wait, I'm not supposed to say, lol!
It's the Butterfield Blues Band, and it IS a classic- you gotta get into that East/West album!
The Work Song is worth it alone.
That was NO Freudian slip...just before I was going to say goodbye, I thought it would be funny to say Johns and Hookers.
So I went with it, lol!
Golden Pell goes to The Association.
That's great with me- I love The Association!
Thanks for writing and listening, I'm glad you did,
Mike
