Classic Rock Bottom

Well these Tuesdays in February have certainly been eventful.
This week it is Fat Tuesday, last day of the Mardi Gras, and the last time to party like crazy before Lent begins the next day.
I'll have songs relating to Mardi Gras, naturally- beginning with the New Orleans legend Professor Longhair, and his classic that pops up every year for the Carnival.
Plus the story of the disputed Jockamo, the song innocently recorded, renamed...and writing credit claimed for by a Girl Group in 1965, AHA!
In addition, through both these two halves (and beyond), I'l be celebrating the pioneering contributions of New Orleans musicians to Rock & Roll from its earliest days onward.
So join me for a virtual drunken bacchanal, (the only kind I do nowadays, lol.)
Happy Fat!

Jon,
Hahahaha...so the drinking is fine, you just don't like the damn beads and evil voodoo.
Imagine you with drinking and acid...they'd re-make Easy Rider, lol!
I am sure I would enjoy Mardi Gras...be right up my alley.
And I think I will be touching on the voodoo next week, if I continue with New Orleans.
Too bad about the Paul Simon tune, although even to me it didn't sound quite as good as my memory of it.
I liked the way it started...and that was the part I heard in my head when I thought to play it...maybe it just couldn't live up to those other authentic New Orleans songs.
Let me get this straight, an evil cartoon on USA Up All Night?
There are evil cartoons, even if in black & white, lol?
You have acid reflux!
Glad you liked the music, the other half will be here soon.
And I hope I am not too heavy on the beads and voodoo!
You are one funny character, lol!
Thanks for listening and writing, and the laughs,
Mike

Like Rjhog, I could care less about Mardi Gras. The beads, the voodoo, the drinking..wait, the drinking is fine. It's the damn beads and evil voodoo!

However, unlike Rjhog I liked each and every song except for the Paul Simon tune. Don't know why. I like Paul Simon, but this song did absolutely nothing for me.

The song(s) that preceded it though reminded me of watching an evil cartoon on USA Up All Night years and reays ago. It would fit in perfectly with an onld black and white cartoon with the jumpy picture and all the bodies going up and down like accordions. Maybe this is a by product of the acod from a few weeks back, but that's what it reminded me of.

Liked the Fats and LR songs as well, they put me in a festive mood, sans beads and voodoo of course.

Great listen!

I don't think anyone can change me.

And people are already lining up to dispute that perfect remark...it stretches for blocks, LOL!

I certainly wouldn't want to change you.  You are perfect just the way you are.

RJ,
Well, looks like you won't like Part Two either, lol!
Truly!
The Mardi Gras and me would have been a great mix- good food, wild women showing their boobs for cheap jewelry, but unfortunately for me, endless amounts of booze flowing, which I no longer drink.
The Dixie Cups number was my favorite of the half hour- I've always loved that song.
Lucky for the Golden Pell, Paul Simon's Take Me To The Mardi Gras was literally a last moment thought.
I was sitting there playing those Mardi Gras songs, and it suddenly occurred to me to run around and pull out Simon's song.
A very similar thing happened to close out Part Two and the show, the last song was a last second addition, and quite clever I might add, lol!
You'll decide tomorrow.
The freedom I have allows me to do that- I gather a bunch of songs regarding a topic, and just trust that my inner compass will lay them out there in an intelligent fashion.
There is no one I can't play, and even better, no one I HAVE to play!
I love your honesty and opinions, it's always fun reading them.
But being honest myself, there has only ever been ONE listener I aimed to please.
And that would be ME.
If I think a show is good, then that's what it is, lol!
I love the old Rock & Roll, and think it is sadly overlooked- so this will be a history lesson or maybe just a self-indulgence.
Either way, I go out there alone, and left alone- no one looking over my shoulder, no demographics to please. Just me always playing the best damn music I can think of!
If people like it, of course I am pleased.
But that's just incidental, of minor consequence...if they don't, it doesn't really matter to me.
That's why I enjoy reading your opinion.
It allows me to step back and hear an impartial observer, good or bad, and I like that...distancing myself a little.
Nothing will ever change in my presentation however, lol!
Thanks for the listen and the cool writing bro,
Mike

Mike,

I have to be truthful.  I'm not a fan of Mardi Gras.  No particular reason.  I've never had any interest in going.  I don't really like the musical style that, for the most part, this show features.  It's just one of those personal preferences, although I'm aware that Fats Domino certainly contributed to the sound and influenced many rock artists that I do love.  It's just not for me.

However, I did manage to find a worthy Golden Pell recipient.  That would be the one and only Paul Simon.  Take Me To The Mardi Gras was a cool little song.  And truth be told, I kinda liked the song before it by The Dixie Cups.

Don't get me wrong.  I still like to listen.  Always do.  This musical style is just not for me.

RJ.
