ROCKOLLECTIONS: MEMORIAL DAY 2014 PT.1

Memorial Day is May 26th, it used to always be on May 30th before our fixation with Monday Holidays.
It is a day of Remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service- the ultimate sacrifice.
I'll open with song that is also a Poem, taken word for word from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
And later in, a song adapted from a Poem- this one written in 1942 by a not famous woman, Elma Dean, an Oakland housewife just doing her part during WWII.
Both are beauties!
You will detect some snarl in here, when I mention Benghazi and some VA Hospitals cooking the books to look good and receive bonuses, criminally letting Veterans die in the process.
These Rockollections shows always reflect my mood- I bring me to them- and I knew going in I'd undoubtedly have something to say.

RJ,
Yeah, it was somber, now you know what I was thinking about the week before when I was stuck and went RED.
The second half may be a little less so with a story about a puzzle, but still serious.
And do you believe this, I tuned to the terrestrial station and they were repeating last week's show?
I'll wait a while to calm down, but that doesn't usually work with me, lol!
We are on that great same wavelength again, as the song that haunted me most after playing it was the Golden Pell recipient.
It's The Other Side by Don Conoscenti.
With regard to that, I got it and you do too.
And that Dress Blues is a find, took me a moment to realize you wouldn't sleep in those unless...!
Gotta get me a copy of that song.
Thanks for the always dependable listen, writing, and in this case, support,
Mike

Jon,
Nothing much to say?
Knowing you, I thought you'd be the first and only person to point out I had the wrong Monday, LOL!
As you can figure, I have to do the shows in advance.
Thanks for the listen, and nothing much to say except "NICE SHOW!".
That makes me feel good!

Very somber show Mike, which it should be.  I couldn't imagine an upbeat show regarding the subject.

Really, every song was terrific.  It was difficult to pick a Golden Pell recipient.  But I have managed to do so. The song that stood out most for me was The Other Side by Don somebody.  Just beautiful.  Would love that one.

I'd like to share a song with you that I discovered a few months ago by an artist that I'm becoming a pretty big fan of.  His name is Jason Isbell and the song is Dress Blues.  Here it is:

Great show Mike.
