ROCKOLLECTIONS: MLK AND SONGS OF FREEDOM PT.2

Continuing on with our presentation of Martin Luther King and Songs Of Freedom.
I am going to open this one up with another version of the song we left off with.
I will have more biography about Martin Luther King, the greatest of the Pioneers of the Civil Rights Movement.
But there were other pioneers too, including those in music, who were putting themselves out there and singing the same message of equality.
Listen to two of them- Curtis Mayfield with the Impressions, and Nina Simone.
They were really saying it.
Open your ears and mind, and be free!
Oh, forgot to mention on the show that last song is by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young from the live album, 4-Way Street.

RJ,
I care about the taking notes, although I don't want you to think that is necessary...too much like homework, lol!
And how did you listen in the car, hooked it up with an MP3 player?
Amazing what we can do today, and I'll bet the sound quality was excellent in the car- it can be one of the best ways to listen to music.
You like Bruce, I like Bruce (until he starts preaching, then I tune him out!).
Jon can be a difficult person to please...but a great, very funny guy, lol!
The Beatles song is on Anthology 1, and I thought I could slip that in there and surprise people with it.
I think it worked.
Ok, the way I figure it the Golden Pell goes to This Is My Country by Curtis Mayfield & the Impressions.
Not at all a hit single, just a song I happened to remember...and a very good choice.
I thank you for the listen and writing, even without notes, lol,
Mike

Downloaded and listened to the show in the car today, so I couldn't take notes.  Not that anyone cares.

I liked it all.  I even liked Bruce's version of Chimes Of Freedom better than The Byrds.  I, unlike Jon, am perfectly okay listening to Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce.

The Beatles song was great.  I've heard it before, but it's one of those Beatles songs that I don't really know. I guess I have it, since I have the box set.  I'll have to look it up.

I'll give the Golden Pell to song number two.  Can't remember who it was or what the title was, but it was a cool song.

I don't know...seems to me I have read things by you about that album...

No sarcasm at all. It is truly, without a doubt, the greatest Kiss album. EVER.

Oh. I thought they were both written in the 60's. Shows what I know.

"The Elder" is the greatest Kiss album EVER?
Do I detect a tiny bit of sarcasm there, lol?

Both songs were written by John Lennon in his New York apartment, on the barest of tapes.

And the rest of the Beatles, mostly Paul, added music and voices to make them extremely palatable.

Who knows which was written first?
Only John...and he's still dead!

No. "The Elder" is the greatest Kiss album EVER. Anyone who tells you different is a complete liar and most likely on drugs.

Wasn't "Free As A Bird" written before "Real Love"?

Jon,
See, I admitted it in writing.
Yes, maybe you should have read that, lol!
"Free As A Bird" came out before "Real Love", and I liked it better at first.
Over the years I have flip-flopped and prefer "Free As A Bird".
It's all part of growing up, lol!
Oh NOW I remember about "The Elder".
You HATE it, and have written that many times.
Damn, I should have known!

I see that you did mention that song in the writeup above. Maybe I should have read that?

I have Anthology 2. The drug years. Correct me if I'm wrong, but "Real Love" was older than "Free As A Bird", right? That's why I though "Free As A Bird" should have been on Anthology 2. I don't like "Real Love" though.

Ask a (gag) Kiss fan about "The Elder". They'll tell you. And bore you while telling you.

Jon,
I had heard that you were considered the new Dylan a while back.
So it is not a surprise to me, the only surprise being you didn't become MORE famous, lol!
What is Bruce and "The Elder" album, and how did it get past me?
Actually the two new Beatles songs were "Free As A Bird", and later after that on Anthology Two "Real Love".
So I am very confused as to what you bought- but I do remember the TV show.
You know, after I said Curtis Mayfield was a "pusher" of Civil Rights I wanted to take it back.
I meant it in an entirely different and innocent manner.
But the show was live...and even if when it is not, I leave things in for that live feel & exprerience.
Tripped over my words, but I always intended to say bus boycott- never had a thought to play any BusBoys.
Neil Young's "Trans" was weird.
I once played Like A Hurricane from it and Engineer Ken got pissed at me- he wanted to hear the real version, lol!
That was CSN and don't forget Y at the end!
And that album was recorded live at several places, so I am not sure where it is from.
But decidedly not Woodstock.
Calm down, Engineer Ken was telling me in my headphones to hurry and sign off, that's why I forgot to even identify the song at all.
Thanks for the listen, writing, and the scolding, lol,
Mike
