ROCKOLLECTIONS: MLK AND SONGS OF FREEDOM PT.4 END

We begin our final chapter with another interpretation of the song we ended the last chapter with.
Great songs tend to be covered by other artists, and this one has been done at least by the Chambers Brothers, a weird but thoroughly enjoyable version by the Vanilla Fudge and the one I have chosen.
There is just something about the interplay of guitar and voice that does it for me.
Martin Luther King won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.
That same year, Bob Dylan released HIS own version of a song we have already played twice.
I felt I would be cheating you if I didn't play the serious, poetic, brilliant use of words contained in Dylan's epic, talking about all the ways we are NOT free!
Then the sad account of the King assassination- and I do remember thinking, "Man, what is going on here? You disagree with someone, so you shoot them"?
And that will begin our grand finale.
To close it all out, I have 3 of the best songs ever that speak to all of Mankind.
Kindly listen to the words- you will be better for it.
Happy Birthday, Martin!
I always liked your non-violent style.
There are radical crazies that could learn from that.

This was my favorite show out of these four. No Bruuuuuuuuuuuce! No Elvis! But there was Dylan, and he was intelligible! Me like!

As another note, that was NOT the Jeff Beck Group, it was his solo album from '85 titles "Flash". I actually had it at one time, it's not that good except for a couple songs. Damn, I feel knowledgeable!

And anyone who isn't a fan of the Jeff Beck GROUP must be a Kiss fan.

Believe it or not, I'm not much of a fan of that Jeff Beck Group song, People Get Ready.  I like Rod Stewart, but something about him singing that doesn't work for me.  The guitar is killer though.

And I'll take Springsteen's version of Chimes Of Freedom over Dylan's.  Just sayin'...

Now, the next and final three songs were fantastic.  The Dion (spelling?) song I have always liked, as well as the Peter Paul and Mary song.  Both just beautiful tunes.

And I'm giving the Golden Pell to Sam Cooke for Change Is Gonna Come.  Now that's the kind of soul music I like.  Great choice to end the show.

Jon,

Yes, I was.

I brought in the Best Of Beck, but naturally Engineer Ken had it outside to play it.

He was the one who noticed it was done in 1985.

I just stated that fact- as Ken always said Do NOT ever correct yourself on-the-air...it only brings attention to things.

I was frankly surprised, thought it was much earlier.

I'm missing something maybe....

You mention that Rod Stewart wasn't as famous as Jeff Beck, but this version came out in 1985 and by that time Rod Stewart was probably MORE famous than Jeff Beck, depending on how you use the word "famous". Were you talking about when Rod Stewart first joined up with Jeff Beck?
