ROCKOLLECTIONS: PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE PT.5

If you are just joining us, since the beginning of the New Year, I have been playing songs about the Past Present and Future.
I started with the Future, and now we are firmly in the Present.
Or as it is also known, Today!
So, Music For Today- simple as that.
Including two of the most beautiful songs with that title that I could think of, and really love a lot.
It seems I don't feel like writing much...Today!
But I am sure you will enjoy the Music!

Jon,
Guess you know by now why I took so long wuth this.
You have never been more correct, if a person don't have "Surrealistic Pillow" in their collection, then their collection is not only incomplete, it is a SEMI-collection, lol!
Sorely lacking, missing a vital piece.
As I recall, they tried 3 shorter versions of Time Has Come Today as singles, I have one.
Maybe I'll play it someday for laughs.
Good we all agree, nothing wrong with John Denver- good line about his song, lol!
Never listened to much Sade, but I dig Dave's True Story...a lot!
TTWS and the the crest of suckiness?
You are a piece of work, lol!
Thanks for the listen, writing and patience,
Mike

RJ,

After that storm, and I still feel like crap from getting stuck in it, I almost didn't make it home.

No joke man, and I was near the vast Greenwood Cemetery...appropriate!

I don't seem to completely have the internet back, but at least I can now read emails.

I tried sending the show, but it won't complete- drops out along the way.

I'm so pissed I feel like not doing it anymore.

I am gonna ACT like I'm alright today, and record the final Past halves.

I was wondering what people thought since I disappeared.

Did we miss part 6?

I believe, and I could be wrong but highly doubt it, that if you don't have "Surrealistic Pillow" in your collection, then your collection is not complete and, if you're a man or a man-child, your not a man or man-child. I read that somewhere on the internet and the internet is never wrong.

Sad about those people that only know the short version of Time Has Come Today. Really sad. Well, at least they had dance class back in college where they could flaunt their jazz hands.

What's wrong with John Denver? I wonder if Rocky Mountain High is NOW the Colorado theme song?

Dave's True Story was nice, but it reminded me of Sade. I like Sade a lot, but this was ok.

TTWS really sucks. I thought the other tracks sucked, but this reached the crest of suckiness. Hey, I might be onto something here: "the crest of suckiness". Hmmmmm......

Nice show Mike, but TTWS almost completely ruined it. ALMOST.

Richard Cheese?

Wasn't that your nickname BEFORE UGA, LOL?

Don't know him, but there's that guy John Pizzarelli here in NY and some others too.

Not sure how I really feel about Cocktail Lounge Jazz, I just play what catches me and I like.

If you like Cocktail Lounge Jazz, you should check out Richard Cheese.  He does covers of popular tunes in that style.

RJ,
I'm not sure, but I believe Jon has started to care again- he's found hope!
Hard without the Weather Channel but I think he's gonna make it, lol!
You DO know that 1st song, right?
That's the length I grew up hearing, and it's a classic.
You should immediately obtain Surrealistic Pillow, you'll thank me.
Start to finish, it is great, and a perfect example of what was happening in the 60's.
I did that on the show one time- I played John Denver and came on and said, "Yeah, that's right. I played him!"...hehehehe.
We don't care what others think bro, and never will!
And he gets the the Golden Pell.
I had you down either for him, Dave's True Story or most likely Jefferson Airplane.
Dave's True Story I first heard over 10 years ago, and I am liking them more and more lately.
They play cocktail lounge jazz, but with very hip lyrics- the Dave guy writes the songs, and the chick Kelly Flint does the vocals- and they are essentially a trio, but have help ocassionally from others.
Explaining why Jazzy was your nickname is always better than leaving it up to our imaginations...same thing with Crest, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing, more shoutouts for you will undoubtedly come,
Mike

Thanks for the shout out Mike.  I really do like that TTWS song, lyrically and musically.  Jon doesn't, can't wait to see his reaction to it...but I'm sure he doesn't care.

That first song was looooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggggg.

About 11 minutes.  Wow.  It's a good song, except maybe for that middle part.

I don't own Surrealistic Pillow.  But I do like that song.  It was really close to being awarded the Golden Pell.

But that goes to John Denver.  I like John Denver.  There, I said it.  And obviously you do too.  We don't care what others think, right.  He had a great voice, shame he's gone.

That song by Dave's True Story was quite Jazzy.  Jazzy was my nickname at UGA.  Can't discuss why.  Pharmacy School secret.  Also can't discuss why said nickname was almost Crest.
