ROCKOLLECTIONS: PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE PT.8 END

Alright, this is it, the Grand Finale to our exploration of the Past Present and Future.
And I think I proved one thing- Music and Radio can offer Time Travel!
Continuing with the Past, I'll open and close this final episode with the same gentleman- a local guy born and bred here in New York City, and a particular favorite of mine.
He issued his first records in 1958, and as I have been insisting for years, has lost neither his voice nor his relevance right up to today.
We are seemingly hard-wired to look back fondly on the Past, thinking those were the best times and can't be topped.
At times, I am guilty of it, and I am sure I am not alone.
But in truth we should have learned one thing, that Carly Simon was right- These Are The Good Old Days!
I hope you enjoyed this Series.
I had a ball doing it, thinking of songs that haven't come into my head for many years.
Each Chapter has been unpredictable, and that is Radio's biggest failure nowadays.
All I can say is, I wish you a Happy Past Present and Future!
And come back and listen again.

You gotta be kidding, you turned it OFF!
I agree...WHAT AN IDIOT, LOL!!!
You missed something that will probably never happen again!
Take out the Probably!
And that punk Clemens claimed he thought the bat part was the ball.
If I were Piazza, I would have gotten him somehow- he should be embarassed letting that and the other things go in front of everyone.
You're right, Clemens was. is, and always will be, an ass

Yeah, '86. I was watching that game and when the second out was made, I turned it off. I was so damned depressed. A little later I turned back on the tv and couldn't believe what I missed. Incredible! So, one of the greatest plays in World Series history I missed. WHAT AN IDIOT!

That bat part that Clemens threw at Piazza is up for auction, or something. Clemens was and is an ass. Punk ass beyotch.

Jon,
You too with the Those Were The Days, just like RJ?
Maybe I missed something during my drinking days.
Hey, did the Carpenters do it, lol?
See now, RJ really liked it, you thought it was just was an ok show!
I should circle the calendar on those rare occasions I please you both, lol!
Well I know I would be a fan of if the NY Giants because my Mom was!
Plus I grew up in Manhattan and that's where they played.
I am a Mets fan.
But we are not so long suffering- there were the Amazin's in 1969, and who could EVER forget 2 outs in the 9th and we beat the Bosox in '86?
Didn't show up in the World Series against the Yanks though.
Somebody should have kicked Clemens ass!
Oh, that's the hockey player in me, lol!
To you also, thanks for dependably listening and writing all the way through that big MY Series,
Mike

RJ,
Why thank you bro!
Wow, the Golden Pell given right away.
To Dion for Written On The Subway Wall/Little Star.
And do you know the song Little Star by the Elegants that he sneaks in there?
The guitar work on that is phenomenal eh...and I know you like the guitar, lol!
Isn't there a nice saxophone in there too, or am I thinking of the other one by him, or both?
Nice call on Tony Bennett, and there were some gorgeous lyrics in there.
When you don't get too much snow, an inch and a half is time for celebration, lol!
Did the kids have fun?
All In The Family is the last show I remember the WHOLE family watching together- Mom, Dad & 5 boys!
Let me know if you want the song or any others.
Those Were The Days by Mary Hopkin is the only version I know, and even if someone else covered it, I doubt it was a more famous version.
Now with with Johnny Cash, that's the song you missed by Dean Martin!
Man, his complete albums collection is like the stock market, lol!
I have plenty of them, including the 5 CD set with Rick Rubin, which is excellent.
Hey wait, an additional Golden Pell to Dion!
That's unprecedented- 2 Golden Pells in the same half hour...and to the SAME guy!
I swear to you, Dion has done some incredible music- much of it confessional.
He was a young, famous, good looking guy living in New York, with the babes all around, and the money that seems to steer guys like that to drugs.
He married a good woman, and straightened himself out- VERY much like Johnny Cash!
He never stopped growing musically, still is with that "Son Of Skip James" album- too bad so many people refuse to let him go from the Oldies and the Hubcap Generation.
This whole Series I thought turned out very well- sometimes I feel real good about what I've done.
Glad you liked this one, thanks for dependably listening and writing all the way through it,
Mike

That "Those Were The Days" song brings back memories of something, but I don't know what. There's something at the back of my mind about that song, yet I can't grasp it.

This was an ok show, there were some really good songs, but I still like last week's better. Those are the breaks, I suppose.

I wonder what team I wold be a fan of if the Giants and Dodgers didn't leave NY. Would it be the Stankees? I don't know. I don't like the Dogers or Stankees, can deal with the Giants. Guess it was just meant to be for me to be a long suffering Mets fan.

Sweet show my brother.

Let's just get that Golden Pell out of the way right now...it goes to Dion for Written On The Subway Wall/Little Star.  The guitar work on that is phenomenal.  Just a terrific tune.

I thought that may be Tony Bennett you were playing.  I loved this lyric, "walking miles through the snow to hold that one girl's hand".  Did I say it snowed here last night?  We don't get too much of it, but we got about and inch and a half last night.

Baez and Taylor were okay, but I loved the All In The Family song.  That was such a great show, and I always thought it was perfect the way those two performed it.

And how 'bout Mary Hopkin?  Those Were The Days has one of the all time great, haunting melodies.  Just beautiful.  And wasn't there a more famous version, a cover by Abba or some group like that?

Haven't I told you before you cannot go wrong with Johnny Cash?  It's not possible.  I have this album, and it's very good.  I'm still watching the price on that complete albums collection.  It's still hovering around 200 bucks.  It was down around 160 bucks for a while (used) but has since gone back up.

I've already awarded the GP, then you go and play another outstanding song by Dion.  I Used To Be A Brooklyn Dodger.  If only I could give that GP to both songs.  Heck, it's my rules, I say give an additional GP to Dion.  That's a first.

Mike, this was my favorite half show of the series.  Appreciate the great tunes.
