Classic Rock Bottom

It's the Second Inning- no score, nobody on and nobody out!
We continue with Baseball, which has long been called Our National Pastime, but probably isn't anymore.
Sex is still a Popular Sport though, and we'll listen to a trick that has always worked for me, lol!
You'll hear about my Love/Hate Relationship with Baseball....like you care!
Then it's a Musical Look at some Centerfielders
It's amazing to think that in the 50's, New York City had arguably the 3 BEST Centerfielders in the Game!
I'll end this Episode with what Baseball should mean today- and a poke at the lazy kids of today and the empty ballfields I sadly see- beautiful fields we would have killed to play on, and yet there are no kids to be seen.
And it's official, we will continue to Play Ball next week!

RJ,
I like this stream-of-consciousness writing as you go along.
What do people have against Rupert Holmes, lol?
You got Woody!
I too remember when Pete Rose's hitting streak was stopped- the Game Of The Week was on NBC then, and they were really following the streak- what I didn't remember is it was stopped by the Atlanta Braves.
You seem to know that team very well! Damn, they won 16-4!
That's a rout!
A song about Willie Mays and then Mickey, and if they had made one, I would have played one about Duke Snider.
But doesn't Mickey sound goofy saying "Mickey who", lol?
Watched 2 Seinfelds at a friend's house last night, they are still fantastic!
I am surprised you hadn't heard Terry Cashman's "Willie, Mickey & The Duke (Talkin' Baseball)", that was pretty big.
I know ALL of of those guys in there, it's today's players I don't know!
Now I was waiting to spring Centerfield on the listeners, figured they had to know I would play it.
What better time than after playing songs about Centerfielders, even beginning with Dimaggio?
I knew there were so many songs about baseball, that's why it was always in the back of my head to do this, lol!
We are just getting started!
And the Golden Pell this time goes to Terry Cashman for Passing It On.
A beautiful song, tinged with a bit of sadness, that is the title track of an album I keep returning to for these shows.
"Hey, can you play some more Terry Cashman?"
Oh yeah, you know it, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

I'm going to say is was WDHA and this was in the late 70's maybe early 80's. Saturday night they played big band music and I really dug it, especially everytime they played a track by Spike Jones.

Yes, THE Apple, the one that wasn't in Citifield when it first opened because the owners are *$#%%$%$ morons.

Jon,
I had forgotten about Woody Allen, but Rupert Holmes is a pervert?
Why, because of pina coladas, lol?
That is a picture of THE Apple, the one that moves not nearly often enough!
I was talking about the ballfields kids play on being empty, not stadiums.
But that's a way to get me riled, the cost of going to a game!
The Yanks when they opened the new place tried to get $2,600 PER GAME for tickets behind home plate.
They had to cut that in half to $1,300- still too much for a simple game midweek in mid-season!
At Tickethub or some place, I happened to see they were charging (and this was a deal mind you) $106 for PARKING FOR A GAME AGAINST THE RED SOX!!!
And the Mets are no better!
Pisses me off that they use 9/11 as an excuse to prevent you from bringing anything in with you to combat their exorbitant concession prices.
Yeah, I'll take jimmybx- tell him about me and I'll give him my address- but I want that Michigan Canadian first, LOL!
They played that Joe Dimaggio song on an Oldies station?
Jesus it's from 1941...how far back do they go, lol?
Must be a damn good station, I'd probably dig it!
Willie was a Met, but best forgotten- he was the BEST ballplayer I've ever seen, and I was embarrassed for him when I saw him fall down after striking out.
Reminds me of seeing Bobby Orr, his knees gone, skating backwards in a pre-season game, falling down, nobody touched him- on his worst day day Bobby Orr wouldn't fall on his own, nor Willie.
By the way, Bobby Orr was the BEST hockey player I've ever seen...NOT Gretzky!
Yeah, we missed out on that fiasco, A-rod!
I like Baltimore and Pittsburgh- I tend to stay with my Eastern teams.
John Fogerty, you predicted that...you're a regular Karnac The Magnificent, LOL!
You are well-done!
Much more Baseball Music to come at Rockollections.
Thanks for the listen and writing my friend,
Mike

Ever seen old video of Rupert Holmes performing?  Awkward dude!! And I once heard some more of his music not name Pina Colada, and it was terrible - terrible being the nicest word I could come up with...

Since this is the second inning, does that mean there will be at least 9 of these?  With a potential for extra innings?

Let's type as we go again.

That's my mother's name too.  Seriously, but not really.  Rupert Holmes?  Meh...

Next it sounds like Woody Allen maybe.

And a song about Joe's streak being halted.  I remember when Pete Rose's hitting streak was stopped by the Atlanta Braves.  The Braves won 16-4.  My family had tickets to go to the game the next night.  Of course, Pete Rose hit a home run that night.

A song about Willie Mays.  Not bad.

And now Mickey.  I should have saved my Seinfeld story for this half. Just realized that's Mickey sayin' "Mickey who".

Here's another name checking song.  I actually recognize some of these.  Not bad.

Centerfield.  You knew this was coming sometime.  Possibly the most known baseball song of all time?  I think so.  You hear it at ball fields all the time.  Good job by Fogerty.

Passing It On is a pretty good song.  Who knew there were so many songs about baseball?  Anyway, I think, unless you play one more song that surpasses it, I'll award the Golden Pell right here.

Hey, can you play some more Terry Cashman?  Just messin' w/you.

Rupert Holmes. A pervert with that song about pina coladas and a pervert here. What a perv. And then you went to Woody Allen? (NOTE: I have no issue with Woody, but it is kind of funny).

Hey, a picture of the Apple! NICE!

With the cost of seeing a game nowadays, I'm not too surprised that stadiums are empty, especially those of sucky teams. I remember going to Shea in the early 80's, ticets were less than $10 for good seats, didn't have to worry about parking because we took a bus and then the subway. Guess you can still do that now, but parking costs are off the wall, tickets are high, concessions are high. You have to take out a mortgage on your home to afford going to a game.

Living in Michigan, of course I can't go to Citifield, but I do join in the discussion on Metsblog when a game is on, we talk about the game and whatever pops into our heads. Of course there's some people that are idiots, like jimmybx who doesn't like the white man, played semi-pro ball and has 17" pythins, yet when you see his picture, you see a round bald man, looks like a chubby oompa loompa, and then when you call him out he tried to get nastier and nastier and then when you say he should get help he gets REALLY defensive and compares himself to Michael Jordan and Mohammed Ali by stating that they didn't like the white man either and, since he's just like them, he doesn't have to like the white man either. He's somewhere in the Bronx in case you wanna meet up with him. We've come to the conclusion that he either works at a pizzeria or is in the lawn care business.

Not being a Yankee fan, I still dug that Joe Dimaggio song when I used to listen to oldies music on Saturday nights.

Willie was a Met!

Another Stankee song. Sigh. Well, at least next year they'll have A-rod back. I'm sure he'll be great. Yeah. And to think, he COULD have been a Met many years ago.

Man, KC has some momentum! Would like to see wither KC, Baltimore, Anaheim or Pittsburgh win the WS this year. Don't care for those other teams. Need some new blood!

John Fogerty! I predicted that!

I'm done, for now. Nice show.
